It’s all of that. It’s a truly vile movie that deserved way more hate than it got, I think mainly because Predator had so many not-great sequels at that point that people weren’t shocked that there was another bad one. Like, it’s insane that it came from the same guy that did “The Nice Guys” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.”

Back when the Lizzie McGuire movie came out, I didn't realize Hilary duff played both characters

People will bring up the premise for Hannah Montana and be like ok she just has a wig though so how would her classmates and friends not realize Hannah is miley?

Have you ever noticed how no one has seen Clark Kent and Superman in the same room together? Eerie.

 

I've heard that a woman can wear her hair down and take off her glasses and she's barely recognizable anymore as well. Wild.

 

As someone who can’t stand a little fucker explicitly designed to sell toys/provide comic relief I did not mind the little guy in this one tbh. I liked the tone of the movie before he showed up, but I also don’t think a full movie like that works for general audience. My crowd was basically entirely families and they seemed to get more into it as it went along. I thought it was fine. I’m not a big predator guy so I don’t lose too much sleep over which direction these movies go in.

 

Bud was so cute! I love the team up with Dek in the final act. This was really good. I think the only people complaining are those who expected/wanted something else. A franchise can change its tone and still work.

 

Looks like the audience reaction to this is even more positive than the critics. The audience score on RT right now is a 95% (compared to it's 85% critic score).

 

I did thoroughly enjoy this when I saw it, I have zero attachment to the predator universe so I wasn’t really looking for the story and everything to be a particular way, just wanted to have a good time at the cinema

 

Finally got around to watching Killer of Killers and absolutely loved it. Would have been so cool to watch in theaters, especially the WW II story.

Unfortunately Badlands will likely be an at home watch for me.

 

Exactly this for me. I have no loyalty to any Predator mythos and this was pure fun.

Took the week off and I have a babysitter today - this might never happen again. Lmao

 

The humor was a big miss for me but otherwise mostly had a lot of fun with this. Trachtenberg clearly cares about the franchise and it's hard to imagine anyone else doing a more thoughtful job. Really enjoyed exploring alien life on the planet, just could have done without the ~quirky~ android stuff

This was good and fun. If we're ranking the last 3 Predator movies (Prey, Killer of Killers, Badlands), it probably lands at the bottom for me but together they form a really fun and fresh trilogy. Kinda crazy to root for a Predator. The final scene that's my mom got me. Also, Bud looks like my dog.
