This was so much fun. The build-up to them finally morphing was long, but the casting was great. Everyone was great, especially Cyler. Goldar was kinda nothing, as were The putties, but the rangers were perfect. Mixed feelings on Rita though I love Elizabeth Banks.[
Watching the stream, I forgot how epic the finale for Jungle Fury was. That battle between Dai-Shi, and the Red Ranger (without being spoilery) was so epic =D I forgot how dry/boring RPM was so I had to dip out of stream for a bit. Also I finally got around to finishing Dino Charge/Super, it was a fun series (season?). I was sad to have it end, but I'm hoping to see all ten rangers once again for the crossover with Ninja Steel. Also Ninja Steel is pretty good, I like how they are handling the bad guys for this series (season?). The Redbot is a great ally, but the Power Ranger marathon on twitch has made me miss Alpha 5, and Alpha 6 (the In Space/Lost Galaxy Alpha 6... The other voices for Alpha 6 aren't so good...) hopefully Redbot eventually proves himself a good replacement. Also fun fact, an actor from Power Ranger SPD who played an ally in that series (season?) is an ally in this show. Same, got out of school officially last May (although sat in on a class during last semester), and have struggled to find work =/
This might be the smallest complaint but I hate how they moved from the rangers just wearing casual clothes of the same color to colored jackets. I'm talking about the whole series. I'm watching RPM right now.
Really enjoyed it. Definitely looking forward to the sequel. Really enjoyed the actors who played the rangers. Billy and Jason's dynamic and just Billy alone.
Don't worry, they'll go back to casual clothes with matching colors soon. Samurai/Super has them wear special (training) uniforms, but most of the time they wear casual clothes that match their colors. Megaforce, Dino Charge, and Ninja Steel are fully casual clothes with matching colors.
I wonder how they'll include Tommy in the sequel since they already had an evil green ranger, sort of. I would still like them to do the Green with Evil arc
I absolutely loved this. Such an awesome movie, that still felt as fun as the old series. I got a little emotional when the Power Rangers theme song came on when they got into their Zords
Looks like it'll make around $40 mil this weekend. That's a positive number. I think it was expected to make around $32 mil. Its going to be huge in foreign markets, so the sequel is definitely happening.
I'll probably see it again with another friend of mine who hasn't yet. I really want this to spawn some sequels. I feel that they'd be even better now that we got the origin stuff handled.
Drive-In theaters. This is taking me way back. We only have them for like 3 months up here in the northeast. I may take a trip across the river this spring to go because of this post. Thank you.
It was my first time at one. Definitely doesn't beat a regular theatre for a few reasons, but did have some advantages
Oh yeah definitely doesn't beat being in a Regal Cinema or Movie Tavern. But the experience is always fun, not to mention the one I grew up going to plays 2 movies per screen.
Some more thoughts.... I guess I'll spoil tag? I thought Jason. Billy, and Kim were the stand out performances by far. Trini was weakest for me, partially due to her having less screen time and from having her be the least into it at first. Zach wasn't given a lot either, but I liked what he did with it. I liked them all, but those first 3 made a big impact. I look forward to the sequel where we can hopefully get more from Trini and Zach now that all the set up has been done. I generally like Elizabeth Banks, but she was acting in a completely different movie than everyone else. I appreciated what she was going for, it was a little more like some of the original show, but it didn't feel like it fit with how the rangers/Zordon were acting and the world they set up. I still can't believe the movie started with a joke about jerking off a cow. That gave me some fears for a little bit before the movie settled in. Really glad they ended up cutting the Jason/Kim kiss from the trailer. The movie was very focused on them being a team and having a romance be a focus when they were still trying to come together to morph would have been distracting in a way. Smart cut. Despite still not liking the way his eyes look, I thought Alpha worked well. Hader sounded great. I thought Cranston was great. Speaking of Cranston, this movie LOVED saying full names for Jason and Billy. Kim Hart is said a few times too. I feel like Trini and Zach maybe got one full name mentioned? Saying full names so often felt really weird. Why wouldn't they just say, "whoa it's Jason!" May be nitpicky, but it hit me as odd. Jason's dad is kind of a dick. Football is not the end all be all, man. And it was super convenient that Jason's dad fished up Rita at the same time he got his power coin. About that night, how did the rangers get home from the car/train crash? Were they teleported? If so, before or after the crash? Did they get hurt in the crash and the coins healed them? We see Jason's coin teleport from one room to another, is that how they got home? If they didn't get hurt in the crash, why did they sleep through all of Sunday? Remember they found the coins Saturday night and woke up Monday morning. Did none of their families attempt to wake them up any time Sunday? What happened there? What an absolute PERFECT time to play the classic theme song. What a fun shot/moment. I know some wanted some more action, but I actually enjoyed the slower burn and build up to the ability to morph. Normally they just get given a morpher and yell and get their suits. It was a nice take to have them earn the right to truly have the full power of a power ranger. This ties back in to why I'm glad they cut the romance essentially, their is some flirty stuff early on, but ultimately the focus is on them becoming a team and trusting each other, not just 2 of them wanting to bang. Power Rangers often does the whole teamwork is needed thing, which beyond being nostalgiac for Rangers, it kind of just rings true in general. I loved the focus on the cast and seeing them in civilian form for so long. Some seasons of Rangers get lazy and use as much Sentai footage as possible and having civilian scenes becomes a treat. I liked that this gave us so much non morphed stuff. I hope the next movie gives us an awesome civilian form fight. Bummed that Goldar was just faceless/voiceless blob of gold. I am asking myself why the INSANE Krispy Kreme product placement didn't really bother me, yet in movies like Man of Steel it was so bothersome. I don't have an answer. This movie even stopped their third act to give a moment for Rita to eat a donut. I mean, WOW. I dig that they already introduced the Zeo crystals. Clearly setting up for a future movie where they lose their powers/power coins. Hope the franchise does continue, I think this was a solid start. I would take 5 of these movies over the Transformers and TMNT recent movies. I guess that's all my random thoughts for now.
They said Zack Taylor once at the end but never Trini's name. They just repeated the gag about getting her name wrong. I wonder if that's because in the show her last name is Kwan and they might need to change that given that this character is not Asian. Although they did keep Zack's last name the same despite the fact that we know he's from a Chinese family I loved the casting here, not sure if Becky G or Ludi Lin are that great but I liked them. Jason's dad is Roy from The Office
