New Century Classics - Bearing with the Sea RIYL: Ginji, Miaou, Explosions in the Sky if they were a pretty, twinkly emo band
New album from KAUAN dropped yesterday. Haven't seen them discussed much on this website, but they are metal legends that have been going for 20 years and slowly incorporating a contemplative post-rock sound in to their more recent albums. This new one seems like a perfect winter album. In lieu of a proper review from myself, I'll share my wife's feedback after we listened to the album in full: "It's very pretty at times. I feel like it could be the soundtrack to me walking in an icy forest or looking out over some beautiful snow-capped vista. But then I get jumpscared by some ancient demon that is cursing me in a language I can't understand. I like it."
Realistically I'm expecting it to just be an official release of A Few Good Years Left or whatever the hell it was called + live debuting some stuff they've been working on. Which I'll absolutely take.
Yeah I'm a little baffled by this too. You'd expect a proper press release or something explaining it. I only really pieced it together in the Instagram comments. Regardless, it should result in good music so whatever works for them I guess.
Post-metal/sludge from Berkshire, England Self-released in June, picked up by Big Scary Monsters and rereleased Feb 20th. Second album next year. Oppressively heavy yet cathartic and deeply affecting.
Thanks for sharing @Carrow I'm surprised on how I managed to miss this when it was released. What an intense record!
