God Is An Astronaut - Embers Am I alone in not caring about almost all of their output in the last decade? Basically ever since they changed the font they use on their album covers they've done mostly nothing for me, and that can't be a coincidence. Bring back the old font, dickheads.
I liked Epitaph and Ghost Tapes a lot, but it has been a while since I’ve listened to them Think I’m gonna revisit some of their stuff soon and check out the new one
I'm so ready to be completely incensed by the gap between this and the actual release date but fuuuuuuuuck it's finally (sort of) happening. Edit: Apparently it's coming out in November according to the group doing promo for their Nottingham show this week.
Shoegaze was raved so my dumbass listened to blackgaze (black metal shoegaze). Post-rock was Slint, so my dumbass listened to post-metal instead (Isis). I was too depressed to think, and I still am but now i luv music moar.
Slightly random rec incoming, but I just reminded myself of a decade+ old band called Friend? who sadly only ever released one EP and a single: They are extremely similar to the short-lived Mr. Dog + Think, Thank, Thunk era of Overhead, The Albatross (which is to say, melodic and a bit mathy with strings). Even the production is similarly not super polished. It's really striking how alike all 4 of these releases are. Which incidentally all came out in the same 2 year period. Also they both happen to be Irish. A bit suspicious now that I've typed it all out. RIP Friend? in any case.
I just heard the studio version of Paul Lynch for the first time and I am a wreck, this is fucking tremendous
To Life - Sepuelma Really really serenely pretty, chill, neoclassical, minimalist-ish, folky, vaguely post-rock adjacent
Having already heard the outro via the many live clips they've posted in the past year or so, I never in a million goddamn years would've expected this song to sound the way it does. Possibly a bigger curveball than the last single tbh. It's fucking dope as hell.
