Is anyone else slightly bothered by the production on like almost all of Ranges' albums? It's always just a bit thin and tinny, never quite sounding like the crushing walls of sound I feel like they're supposed to be. And it's got to be deliberate on their part too at this point. They're relatively successful for a band in this genre (I think), and ostensibly have got a few bucks laying around if they're selling those fucking several-thousand-dollar chess sets which probably weren't cheap to make, so it can't be a budgetary thing. But maybe it's just me, who knows.
I don't think they want to be that type of band, although I do wish they would go a bit louder at times. I'm pretty sure at least one of the members owns/runs the Thousand Arms label and does most of the design work, so that's probably why they go overboard with the merch.
Overhead the Albatross updates from the other week: Album is out in the first half of 2024 They shot a video for the lead single Your Last Breath that will drop alongside album preorders Late mixing stage I would be shocked if it doesn't end up being called This Is Like Love
I don't think there was a single post-rock album that I really loved this year. Not sure if the genre is getting stale or if I just didn't listen to enough.
shedfromthebody - Amare Already been posted in the shoegaze and metal threads. This absolutely doesn't belong here, just like the EP from last year, but once again, she refers to herself (in part) as post metal, so fuck it. Technicality, bitches.
I love how it's a little menacing but also groovy. That part that comes in around the 2:15 mark just gets me.
So here's something completely out of fucking nowhere: The full YellowHammock (or Hammockard, if you prefer) album, A Hopeful Sign, comes out February 9th.
