New Sigur Rós album came out last week. Does nobody here give a shit about them or did everyone just miss it?
Reformat - Precursed Out August 18th. Not really post-rock, but they compare themselves stylistically to 65daysofstatic and pg.lost.
I haven't been talking about it as it took me nearly 5 days to pluck up the courage to listen to it. 10 years is a long old wait for one of my all time favourite bands, so I wanted my first listen to be something particularly memorable. I ended up jumping on a train yesterday evening to the outskirts of London and wandering around for an hour in an ancient woodland called Epping Forest. It felt appropriate for such a haunting and grand album.
Din of Celestial Birds -The Night is for Dreamers Album out August 11th. RIYL: If These Trees Could Talk, Coldbones, Zealand The North
Well first things first: you son of a bitch. Secondly, you must collect intel. You are formally tasked with finding out if there's a more concrete album release window than "after summer" or whatever nebulous crap they said last year.
Coldbones sadly calling it a day for now. Respect the decision, but they'll certainly be missed. They really went all in on the experiential side of post-rock in a way I haven't seen in a long time.
I know it's coming this year but at this rate it's probably autumn. September/Octoberish is my guess. Will find out if I can.
Mesozoic - Chaos Ends in Bliss FFO: idk think of several post-rock bands you like and they're bound to sound similar to at least one of them. Point is it's very good.
Fuck. OK, I was just at the Overhead, the Albatross album preview show. Played six new songs and they sound fucking gigantic. Live vocals and spoken-word a little more prominent. Album is potentially called This is Like Love. Being mixed next week and out early next year I think. New songs: L'Appel du Vide, At Sea, Your Last Breath, Paul Lynch, This is Like Love and one more whose name I missed. And yes they're re-pressing Learning to Growl next year too.
Goddammit I knew it wasn't gonna happen this year. Life is just nonstop disappointments. And how much more prominent we talking here re vocals? 'cause they've been semi regularly posting and re-posting clips from the same two songs the last few months - Paul Lynch, which featured vocals in what I assume was the outro, and I think the other one is called Winter (or at least was at some point) which they described as Irish/Filipino house music, that had a spoken-word section somewhere in it. Was it just those two, or were there more? Either way, you done good, kid.
Oh actually there was one called Your Last Breath (written by Luke) which is what I was thinking of, has a spoken word section in its second half. Paul Lynch has vocals in the outro and At Sea has (sampled?) vocals in there somewhere. e: And going off the clips on Instagram I think it was Winter Set was: L'Appel du Vide At Sea Winter(?) Time Your Last Breath HBG Paroxysm -- Paul Lynch This is Like Love
Definitely doesn't sound like standard EITS -- sort of a further expansion of the electronic stuff from The Wilderness. And I guess that's why it's called The End Tour?
