RIYL: The heavy/aggressive bits of Pillars/Ranges/Coastlands/other single-word plural name bands

 

This was all written and recorded by one guy. Pretty impressive.

A Sudden Burst of Colour - Transgressor/Decoder

 

The snow has me on a Mogwai kick today, their first few albums/EPs are so damn good. I like their more recent stuff too but it’s hard to beat Young Team.

 

Absolutely perfect soundtrack to a blizzard. I ran through each Flies are Spies albums while shoveling out, god damn breathtaking

Final Quiet is so good, truly incredible

 

Japanese art-rock (w/vocals), which has enough overlap with post-rock that you won't dare question me for posting this here.

 

Hardcore Will Never Die, but You Will also rules. It was the first album of theirs that I heard and White Noise, San Pedro, and You’re Lionel Ritchie are some of my favorite Mogwai tracks.

 

Outstanding production/mixing too

 

The Hawk is Howling is where I hopped on so it could be personal affinity for the album but man, when the beginning of I'm Jim Morrison starts through the end (including the 3 bonus tracks) is so so damn good

 

My only exposure to Mogwai is The Returned score. Which is absolutely incredible.

I only just started getting into the genre 2 years ago with EitS, Do Make Say Think, and ...and So I Watch

 

listen to mr. beast!!

 

I was also late to the Mogwai party. Hardcore was the first album of theirs I got into.

 

Mogwai is good but I can’t hate on someone for not getting into them. They have definitely had some ups and downs in their career but they will always get respect from me.

 

Probably my least favorite of the big canonical post rock bands tbh

Every Explosions In The Sky album after The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place is underwhelming.

 

I don't think most would disagree with that one actually

 

Eits is underwhelming as a whole

 

This Will Destroy You is boring.

 

Oh man. Which of their albums have you listened to?

 

Everything up through Tunnel Blanket. I've skimmed the newer ones, but I don't know, the long ambient passages just don't do anything for me.
