Subbing to this thread. Been on a huge Caspian kick lately and watching as many live videos of them as possible. I was super into this genre earlier this decade, but I kinda lost interest in discovering post rock over the past few years. This year has reignited my interest in the genre though, mostly due to the new Mono album, which was the first one of theirs I listened to and really spent time with. Recently discovered Holy Fawn and just listened to Jakob’s last album Sines, which was fantastic. Excited to dive back into this style of music moving forward.
I’ve also had a resurgence in the genre. Been getting back into Do Make Say Think, EitS, and ...And So I Watch You From Afar. Which s/t rips btw.
Lucky enough to see ASIWYFA play the S/T front to back in a 150-cap venue in their home city of Belfast in June. Even luckier to see them do it again in my favourite Irish venue (the Róisín Dubh in Galway) on December 30th.
Post Rock Post // Best of 2019 I stumbled upon this website completely by accident and boy is it good. It’s mainly a lot of metal and various branches of it but the writers LOVE post rock. One of the writers is also one of the organizers of Dunk and Post Festivals along with running A Thousand Arms. A THOUSAND ARMS COMPILATIONS — A THOUSAND ARMS
Definitely want to dig into those lists. There are a few bands I love on there that I didn't even realize released music this year.
I was just sent a notification that HarborLights and Frail Body are touring together. I am going to try and catch the Raleigh date.
What are the recent albums of this genre that are actually doing something new/innovative? I'm not looking for second-rate TWDY or EITS. Also plz don't recommend MONO and Caspian for the 999999th time- I want something new. I used to adore this genre but it seems only a few bands can still keep it interesting. I don't mind if it leans toward ambient or has electro-influences.
