Sorry. Found that one kind of boring. Also one of the few that felt like Post was singing a song written for someone else. I'm probably coming at this album as an outlier, as someone who likes some country (Stapleton, Sturgill, Childers, etc.) doesn't like radio country at all (except for this I guess) and is a mild Post Malone fan.

On the contrary, I thought it was one of the only songs that didn't feel at all like a cynical attempt to write someone else's version of a pop country song. The way he talked about it in the Apple Music interview underlined for me that he really felt the message in that song.

Also one of my favorite melodies on the record, which has a lot of hooks that sound very similar, IMO.

Overall, I think this is decent, but my god, he did not have 27 good versions of this sound. Record labels should have album editors like book publishers have book editors, because this trend of insane data dump albums that are maybe 50 percent good is wildly dumb. I've made more "imaginary version of this album" playlists in 2024 than in any prior year of my music listening life. And a bunch of these albums are going to get Album of the Year nods, which it wild considering their collective batting average.

I know the two major arguments, and it seems I'm not consistent with how I view it. With Tortured Poets, it feels like an absolute slog to me without enough variation to even try to put together a shorter version that makes more sense. But with this one it was a breeze to trim the fat and come up with an abridged version that I really like, and I would hate to lose some of these songs for the ones I didn't care for.

It does make me appreciate the Dua Lipa album for just getting in and out in a normal amount of time and being pretty consistent all the way through. Curious where Sabrina Carpenter will fall on the hits/misses spectrum for her album.

Tortured Poets is definitely more of a slog, but this feels so much more one-note to me, so I think the need for editing on both is about the same. I feel that way about Cowboy Carter too, but there it’s more about not wanting to listen to all the interstitial stuff every time than anything else.

This is good not great. Decent enough background music while working. Song with HARDY is my favorite.

This is sitting at an hour and I still felt the length listening to it last night. Gonna try and trim it down to 45 minutes and see how that works.

Enjoyed this, but only listened to the main version of the album. I just cannot be fucked with such long albums these days. Bring back brevity.

I ended up with this. 44 min 25 sec.

okay, so there are some serious gems on the extended part, but god damn did this album not need to be 27 tracks

it kinda seems like he didn't trust himself enough to put the songs that at are just him on the actual album and loaded the album proper up with all the collabs almost as a crutch

some of the collabs are really good, but I definitely think some of the weaker ones should have been swapped out for the very good songs that are just him, like "Hey Mercedes" & "Dead At The Honky Tonk"

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Right? It’s some true “put me in coach” shit. That and being music supervisor for a TV show.

my trimmed down version is still 18 songs / an hour long.
I basically just swapped in most of the extended version songs for weaker album tracks though. I'll probably drop a few more, because 45 minutes sounds about right, but I like a lot of these songs a ton

Yep same here. I love how tracing the sheet music of the chorus hook in "Nosedive" brings the lyric to life. Katy Perry's "Firework" does the same trick.

It's a really cool use of the vocal line to mimic the metaphor of the song. Also, he and Lainey sound great together, especially when they do the last chorus a cappella.

okay, I am by no means any kind of expert on country music, but it seems to me like they put the songs reminiscent of an earlier era of country radio, one that Post Malone probably grew up listening to, onto the extended version and loaded up the main album with the sound that dominates right now and featured all of those same people to boot

I think I like this album a lot more than most people seem to, but I also think I give the edge to the songs where he goes it alone even though those songs seem more like the misfits here

This actually made me pretty excited to see him next month. He's been on my list forever and though I'd prefer a normal show, he's playing 45 minutes from me and that's pretty darn rare in terms of how far I have to travel, so I planned to go regardless. But now, I actually like the album!

grey hairs, get out of me zoots! Prestigious

Made this into about a 45 min album, cut some great songs but it needs a more consistent vibe (California Sober was tough to lose but their vocals do not layer that well for me)

And the album just needs to end on "Ain't How It Ends", makes no sense that's not the closer on either disc
