Thanks all. Like I said, didn’t know the details and was having a hard time finding anything online. Interested in checking out this new stuff after all the hype in here
FFO: Great American Ghost Their vocalist Ethan Harrison launched a new band recently called True Crime, which veers more into alt rock and grunge territory. They put out their debut EP too which I've put below. Vocals: Ethan Harrison (Great American Ghost, ex-Always Forever) Guitar: Brian O'Rourke (Hellhorse, In Remembrance) Guitar: John Hardiman Bass: Derek Jamison (In Remembrance) Drums: Chris Campbell (ex-Vanna)
Their first release since 2017, it feels like they were teasing new material even before COVID so I'm so glad this is finally out!!
For the past week, I've been diving into bands I only heard a song or an album at most or never really checked out, including Greeley Estates, Alesana, Eyes Set To Kill and a few others. And damn, I can't help but wonder why I never hear anyone mention Greeley Estates. They're much heavier and sludgier than I remember, with their later material sometimes reminding me of Eighteen Visions and Will Haven, all mixed with scene influences. Go West Young Man is a top tier release and their late The Narrow Head and Devil Son EPs are absolutely filthy. Underrated band.
Greeley Estates were/are criminally underrated. 'Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East' is definitely one of the best albums to come from that late 00s post-hardcore/metalcore scene and should've catapulted them to much higher places, and then they went WAY heavier with 'No Rain, No Rainbow' afterwards, but if I remember correctly there was some label trouble going on either between of straight after those albums and they could never grasp that momentum again. 'The Devil Son' is a great EP too, even if some of the lyrics are a little elementary at points.
When I think about it, the rougher production on their later releases must not have helped. That’s something I recall bothering me back in the day as I was used to the more polished recordings of their peers. I imagine they didn’t have much budget left once their momentum went away and they were on their own.
Oh yea I enjoy Greeley Estates, even their album before Go West that was more post-hardcore rather than metalcore is fun too. I really admire them as an example of a band going heavier as their career went on, and No Rain, No Rainbow is sick
And Alesana is great, The Emptiness is a classic to me. Confessions is also pretty peak, I've been waiting for a new album from them for so long now lol
Anyone a fan of Secrets? They've always seemed underrated. Their singer has a strong voice and knows how to write a big chorus. Here's their new song:
The Emptiness is the one I checked out this morning and I already found myself humming a couple choruses later today. Really hooky
agree with the sentiment go west should’ve catapulted them much higher, but they did lose me a bit with rainbow as that was too sludgy for me. Seems to be the nostalgic favorite amongst their fans though. They reigned it back in a bit however and I think they produced some of their best work near the end - marionette and the rest of that EP, as well as wide awake, saints and sinners, etc, all so good. alesana was a big gateway band for me - on frail wings was a game changer in getting me into super emo lyrics lol eyes set to kill were also underrated, thought they and versaemerge would get way bigger. Reach and violent kiss
