Nailed it. UO has been my favorite band for 13 years, seen them 12 times and they are the chillest dudes. Anyways, their influence was fucking MASSIVE, couldn't agree more. I feel like rappers are wearing skinny jeans b/c of Underoath and don't even know it.
Regarding his screaming, he doesn't like that album at all really. He was trying to emulate Dallas, then he worked w/ Melissa Cross and turned into a behemoth! Spencer Chamberlain is the best metal screamer on earth, I'm stating that now. Not saying one couldn't easily argue differently.
That is a very bold yet very incorrect statement. He is very, very good, however and I can't really come up with an alternative but I can, if given some time!
Definitely, I'm aware. Let's think of some! Quick question, how would you label They're Only Chasing Safety? It really is unlike anything else. I don't think it's screamo. Maybe just really poppy post-hardcore?
Keith Buckley. Melissa Cross said years ago he has perfected screaming. I can understand, however I don't think Keith's vocals are the most engaging, and he doesn't have a lot of range.
I getcha! I can totally understand why someone would dislike them(especially SWS, more like Sleeping Through Their Set, they're the worst band live). You don't mean Underoath and Alexisonfire I hope!
oh i totally maen those two bands haha. except for underoath's last two songs which sound like circa survive
Just saw Norma Jean a week ago and was blown away. Undoubtedly still one of the best Metalcore bands out there today. Also Illuminaudio was fantastic and I wish that the Chiodos lineup had gotten to do more.
Haven't listened to those in forever! But I remember liking those ditties. I love the Daniel era. I've lived in Colorado 95% of my life, and throughout H.S. was close pals w/ this cool girl named Erica, she moved to Florida, and she and Dan dated. Just had to throw that in, he's one of my biggest influences so I find that pretty tight(and Redeemer is the best NJ album IMHTG opinion, drums are nuts on it). So, yeah.Small world. Sorry, I've had a dangerous amount of Red Bull lol
OMG thank you! It's their best album. No one agrees w/ me. Wish I saw the original NJ lineup, but whatever members they have now are great. Cory is their rock so I guess it doesn't really matter. And I would definitely consider some of their stuff post-hardcore, just sayin'.
Bless The Martyr will forever be Norma Jean's best album. One band that doesn't get enough recognition here, or anywhere, is Famous Last Words. Others would be Secrets, The Amity Affliction, Jamie's Elsewhere, Movements (kind of), Myka Relocate, Palisades, Picturesque, Shreddy Krueger, Wolf:Speak. Then there's also Of Mice and Men, which may have had the best singer out of all of the singer/screamer combination bands, Shayley Bourget. Since he left, they picked up Jamie's Elsewhere's singer/screamer who is also way up there in terms of talent.
You know what you like, dontcha?I'm ashamed to say I'm only heard of(and listened to)half the bands you speak of but they rule. My pals just had a tour announced w/ Amity Affliction, that band goes hard. Aren't most of those bands metalcore though?
When I think of metalcore, I think of As I Lay Dying and bands like that. There is a certain sound to the guitar, if that makes sense. I don't know how to explain it. The bands I mentioned I feel are all post-hardcore.
Any of you remember these guys? This is what I think of when I hear the term, metalcore. Also these guys.
You're spot one, don't worry. There are some distinct things about metalcore bands, like the tone of their guitars and their drums. You can also tell most of them are influenced by melodeath like At The Death who basically invented the metalcore sound as we know nowadays lol.
it still surprises me how In Flames became a metalcore band in the early 00's. Come Clarity is a metalcore classic in my mind
They're one of my favorite bands. They've become so awful since their 2011 album. I don't know what they're looking for with their new sounds and all of the former members who are leaving these last few years. It's Anders' show now, and he keeps ruining the image of the band :/
