Uh as an electronic music producer (who also can play the guitar and drums) yes it's ridiculously offensive and pretentious and snobbish
It's a pretentious thing to say made 100x more pretentious by the fact that they made a quote picture out of it and tweeted it
Folk artist in 1966 after bob Dylan went electric - "just a reminder we're still playing acoustics up here, no guitar amps on this stage"
it's probably also worth pointing out that the main thing that's wrong with that quote is implying a computer isn't an instrument. it is. anything that generates sound that you make music with is an instrument
I thought the comment was more like this isn't a dj set. We are playing what you hear. Specifically because outdoor dj sets are usually really canned and pre recorded.
Djing is a legitimate form of live music. Go see better dj's. Sets I've seen from Nicolas jaar, Evian Christ, Andy stott, John Hopkins, tnght, rustie, Hudson Mohawke, ryan hemsworth, ag cook, Jamie xx, probably more are among the best sets I've ever seen and they were all at an outdoor festival
I've definitely heard them use pre-programmed sounds and a few backing tracks before so it's extra funny
Clearly this was personal for you. Wowza I wasn't in support as much as I was trying to clarify how I ininterpreted it. One of the Andrew Bayer sets i saw in SF is one of the best musical nights I've ever had. So certainly not down on EDM. From my experience at things like Coachella and Outside Lands, the DJ sets have seen more vibe focused than performance focused. But certainly not a hard and fast rule. I do however have a bias for someone singing live as opposed to sampling a recording. Preference, not a judgement of quality, effort, or if something is music.
If you read what I wrote it wasn't an attack. Your closeness to the conversation might be clouding the comprehension. Either way I agree this is a weird sentiment for a band that has an EP, that is really electronically driven. Maybe it is all a joke that no one got....
So excited for this and for the Milwaukee show on 6/13. Think this will be the.... 8th time I've seen them? They're amazing live.
PTM says to call it. It's a surprise. nothing bad I promise. But if you really gotta know... You hear a clip of a new PTM song
and just like that, the link is gone, sorry. If it resurfaces I will let yall know, but it will be on Spotify/iTunes tomorrow!
2 weeks is not far at all. But we all know that on the 15th, PTM is gonna announce that they felt the album needed a change, theyll scrap the whole thing and head back to the studio.
I loath this album release cycle. Also, warner music group keeps charging me and uncharging me for the vinyl. Hoping the album is great so I forget about the whole experience. Ha
