My friends all love Portugal the Man now... but only Woodstock.. It's as if they think this is their first album
I just realized PTM gonna be in my city next week, sweet! I haven't seen them since 2013, it's been way too long
I remember when PTM was direct support for Lupe FIasco at my college's annual concert in 2012. There was a troll twitter account for my school that messaged "Portugal. The Man just walked through the line into Fest and no one recognized them" haha.
How Portugal. The Man's 'Feel It Still' Became The Unexpected Rock Crossover Hit of 2017 GM of Atlantic says in this interview that in November "Live In The Moment" will be pushed as the next single. Also looks like Feel it Still will chart at #7 on the Hot 100 this week.
It would never happen, but yesterday as I was listening to Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue, I was thinking it would be hilarious if they went a completely unconventional route and released that as the next single to radio, following FIS there is a shot!Obviously wouldn't happen though
Head of Atlantic said in an interview with Rolling Stone next single is Live In The Moment in November.
"Feel It Still" is such a random song to break them out. "People Say" should've happened for them years ago. They've released 3 or 4 albums now with the same amount of commercial appeal, I wonder what grabbed people about this one.
"People Say" was definitely the beginning of some radio success, i remember seeing them live after ITMITC came out and it seemed like everybody knew the words and danced along to "People Say" and "So American" but didn't know any other songs. but obviously, "Feel It Still" is on a whole different level. i'm happy for them though! i really hope the people that check them out go back and listen to their incredible discography. "Woodstock" is a good album but they have so much more to offer!
I listened to their discography again throughout last week, so now it's time to rank. Love: The Satanic Satanist Church Mouth Waiter: "You Vultures!" American Ghetto Woodstock The first three are gems. AG and Woodstock are pretty equal for me. When The War Ends probably my favorite closer, that or Mornings. Like: In the Mountain in the Cloud Censored Colors ITMITC and CC both have excellent songs, but ITMITC has some tracks that are meh and with CC I'm not a total fan of the whole aesthetic. Dislike: Evil Friends Given EF lots of chances, but every time I dislike it more and more. Overall I love this band. Been following them around CC and it still amazes me I hear them on the radio, esp since my new job has me playing the radio all the time. I'm glad they bounced back with Woodstock. Looking forward to what they do next.
Enough time has passed since the new album that I'm comfortable with this ranking Evil Friends >= Satanic Satanist >> Woodstock > ITMITC > Waiter >> Censored Colors > American Ghetto > Church Mouth
My thoughts Waiter > Satanic Satanist > Evil Friends > Censored Colors > ITMITC > Woodstock > Church Mouth > American Ghetto
American Ghetto and In the Mountain are really the only misses for me. Sound like bad retreads of the best parts of Satanist.
Yeah, Mountain really stands out to me as such an expansive and lush album, so layered and unlike their other albums in that sense. More than enough "classics" to justify itself. So American, Got It All, Head Is A Flame, Sleep Forever..... I mean come ON
But then you have Senseless, Everything You See and Once Was One that drags it down imo. Still good album though
