Seems to really be growing on me after a couple more listens. Wish it were longer, though. I'm also coming around to Mr. Lonely a bit more. It's still my least favorite on the record.
I remember reading John mention some of those songs coming out eventually. I'd have to find the article but it was like 6 months back I believe. I know "Number One" was originally a G+D song..
Waiter is so great and so, so different from everything else they've done. it's a real treat and still my favorite album by them (although sometimes it falls to 1A when i get on a kick of something else).
I agree that Waiter is still my favorite, even though there are other albums I really love. Waiter just holds such a special place in my heart for many reasons
Evil Friends is hands down my favorite record by these guys. I would argue it's their best record too. The Satanic Satanist would come in a close second and then Waiter would be third probably.
The intro to this song is such a call-back to Kanye West's "Black Skinhead". I hear it overtime Live in the Moment comes on. Totally an attempt for them to get as big as possible. This track and Tidal Wave. I like Tidal Wave a lot though.
How does everyone in here know what D&G sounded like? Did they release it somewhere or is it on a torrent?
Agree on Noise Pollution not being a good closer. They also broke my cardinal sin of releasing the closing track off an album before the whole thing is released. Tisk tisk!
We're all just going off clips they put on social media through out like two years lol. From what I remember they were solid! Also interesting you can't get into Rich Friends. That's one of my favorite tracks along with "Tidal Wave". They should seriously release that (wave) as a single. Catchy as fuck.
I think I would have been in the same camp as folks that don't really enjoy this release, or consider it middle of the road, had I not seen them live in April. My favorite PTM release is Church Mouth. Satanic Satanist is a close second. I've seen them live several times, but their fan base has certainly changed in the years between 2014-present. At the show I attended in April, I was in the minority as a 30 year old indie-rock fan. I was surrounded by artsy-pop kids in late high school and college. In this context, I think this album is great. Its more "meaningful" pop. Especially from a lyrical perspective. That said, I would much prefer hearing songs like Feel It Still, Live in The Moment, & Tidal Wave on the radio instead of a lot of the other garbage out there.
Totally agree with you on Tidal Wave. If I were their manager, that's where I'd be steering them as well.
I'm happy to say this is already growing on me I was expecting an artistic statement or something but I'm content with just back to back jams
Jammed this in the office today and someone was like, "I've never heard this type of hip-hop before" and I kind of did a double take. There are certainly a lot of hip-hop / pop moments and vibes on here but it didn't really register with me until someone pointed it out. Then on the way home I listened to Waiter and Church Mouth and realized "holy shit have they expanded and moved their sound"
Never listened to these guys before but I'm halfway through Woodstock at work and I love it. Holy shit this is good! Guess I should thank Glenn & his wife for being in the "Rich Friends" video, being a huge IASIP fan and all.
