Speaking of underrated East Portland things, OK Noodle on 122nd and division, unlike its name, is kind of fire. Handmade noodles that are reasonably priced, no frills location, etc. I'm sure 82nd nearby is full of great noodz but OK is great espesh for what it is imo. Also Yuan Su Vegetarian on like 112th and Powell
thinking about moving to portland from NYC for school but know next to no one there. what should i do chorus fm
nah more like the beginning of fall but weirdly i was in the pnw last month and it totally was sunnier than its been in ny generally ♀️
What school are you thinking of, if that's not too intrusive? The different schools def come with a different vibe depending on which I'm sure this is true of many cities, but pdx is still struggling from COVID and some parts of downtown feel a bit eerie. Not in the weird war-ravaged ways that republican folks often portray imo but more vacant. Lots of vacant buildings and closed businesses downtown compared to when I lived down there pre-covid. But I do think the city offers a lot of cool community events for a large variety of interests and things are slowly but surely coming back. Every neighborhood has its own feel and often puts on different cool things. I recently met someone who just moved here from the Midwest and they are loving it and said they've felt very welcomed and supported. Def do your research on which neighborhood feels right or convenient for you. I think our public transport is decent and have had good luck taking it as a woman who's often alone. I feel like there's been more transit security on board and at stops lately. I think we're also v bike friendly but maybe not as many cyclists compared to new york Biggest complaint is that when it's hot it's HOT. Lots of older buildings don't have ACs cause I feel like it didn't used to get so hot. So I feel like sometimes when it's really hot or really cold the city isn't always super able to handle it and power goes out and stuff. But I've always gotten pretty lucky with that too. All the places I've lived have central AC and I've been fairly lucky with my power staying on too *knock on wood* But I also don't think a lot of these things are Portland-exclusive
Hahaha, my wife sent that to me a couple of weeks ago - we were both dying. I also regularly walk by that house while walking my dog
Hope everyone’s hangin in there today! I braved the Thorns/Reign game yesterday and have not been outside since getting home over 24 hours ago. Put up a new ceiling fan last week and am just living under that thing
I went to the Indycar race on Sunday. My son and I parked in Kenton and rode our bikes down to PIR. At the end of the race my bike had a flat, so I had to run 2 miles behind my kid on his bike back up to the truck. I was absolutely drenched in sweat.
Went to see Phantogram and STRFKR yesterday at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Thankfully, we survived the heat, but it was brutal.
Every time I travel somewhere else I just think man this is cool and all but can't imagine not living in the PNW
Anyone in here participate in the various food weeks? Completely forgot it was burger week this week - think I’m gonna hit Breakside this afternoon with a buddy to check out that enchilada burger https://everout.com/portland/events/the-portland-mercurys-burger-week-2025/e205791/
Moving back to Portland at the end of the month, gonna be pretty nice I checked out a couple of the early pizza weeks but then they all got kinda overwhelming lol
I checked out a few places for wing week last year but haven't done any of the others. Burgers sound good though.
I will usually get down with the pizza and wing weeks since there seems to be the most participating restaurants and creative ideas, and they’re small enough things that I can make a day out of hitting up 3 or 4 with a friend. And iirc a price cap so they can’t sell them for more than a certain amount. But agree that it’s a lot to keep up with lol - I don’t bother when it comes to nacho, dumpling, sandwich, etc. Feels like they keep adding more
