I love Nurture, but this is way more up my alley. An album hasn’t affected me this much since Arm’s Length or Sleep Token.
I assumed "Something Comforting" would always and forever stay my top Porter track but "Is There Really No Happiness?" may change that.
After a few more listens, I can definitely say Is There Really No Happiness is my favorite from this. Unsurprising since it's the most Nurture-esque song but as a whole the album is still great
Year of the Cup is growing on me. I don’t dig the spoken work parts still, but his slow singing vocals are amazing.
As someone who's recently four months alcohol free but drank every day for years it really hits, even if 'the cup' is also a metaphor for artistic expression and creativity. (I still can't listen to Easier to Love You)
Can’t connect with this, much like Nurture…just not a fan of his voice. Has anyone heard if Virtual Self is ever coming back? It sounds like Porter is done doing DJ sets under his own name but I’m curious if he’d revive VS. It’ll be interesting to see if the Insomniac/EDM fests next year book him knowing it’ll be a live show:
Are you generally into that brand of electronic music? I thought the record was great, his live sets he did were visually captivating.
I thought Virtual Self was great as someone who grew up on DDR/Bemani/rhythm game music but I completely get why someone who likes Porter's regular stuff wouldn't like it
Being a bigger electronic fan as I’ve gotten older (def replaced indie/punk/emo after 30yo)…it’s great to see Porter pick up these new fans who maybe never would have given him a listen with Worlds and the prior projects. Just really hope he still keeps one foot in the DJ side of live performances. He was one of the main stage DJs out there who could take you on a journey and not feel the need to hit you over the head with big room remixes.
I saw him at coachella 2017 for his final performance of the Shelter tour with Madeon but I didn’t know who he was so I was just chilling sitting down in the back. Super regret that lol. I have seen him 3 times since though
honestly, was one of the most miserable weekends of my life outside of the shows haha, but the sets were awesome.
camping in a tent in a RV park on the beach with a bunch of drunk spring breakers walking around.. would not recommend lmao
