Gonna probably watch after the Oscars tonight. Is one of the two posted in here today any better than the other or are they exactly the same?
Go back and check out Worlds ASAP - the new one has a pretty different approach and aesthetic but the signposts are there.
I just did a discography binge, and am gonna say I wasn't expecting all that brostep in the first album. Worlds got my teary eyed quite a few times, and this new one was similarly immersive. Love an artist who's able to come with such stylistically different bodies of work, and I'm excited to spend more time with it over the next few months.
Looks like there's a release I missed along the way, Virtual Self, I'll give it a listen later as well. To go back to Worlds, these two songs in particular blew me away:
Yeah Virtual Self both is and isn’t a Porter project in that he keeps both sides of his artistic output separate from each other. The EP and single he put out under that name fucking rule though.
That first EP release launched Owsla records (Skrillex's label), and still is one of the best releases under that subgenre to date, imho. He just has an ear for really interesting sound design.
the sampling of It Takes Two in Musician is one of the most inspired sample usage I've heard in a while, it fits so absolutely perfectly
I didn't really dig Worlds when I first heard it, but "nuture" is really hitting a spot and this live set is really something else. Visuals are off the charts, great musicianship. It feels like he's inside the Internet, pushing from the other side of my laptop screen.
I definitely think he’s setting the bar for what a “pop musician” should be right now, with this new live show... it’s insane what he’s pulled off. Basically a solo electro-pop artist/producer/DJ/one-man-band combo he’s got going... like, how cool is that? lol
