i find it weird how under appreciated Porter is on this site? Def considering hes absolutely massive in other spaces

 

Yeah, there’s a lack of engagement with artists like Porter, Mura Masa, or something like Jon Hopkins, outside of the same posters lol

porters new album is shaping up to be one of my favorite pop releases of the year imo so it baffles me

 

I really wonder if its because Porter came up in the hay-day of EDM and started out as heavy dude-bro-molly-popping-edm-fest type music. Where as artists who i very much consider his contemporaries popped up years later and get to be considered indie/blogsphere friendly electronic music. its all very weird

The two singles he has released so far have caught my attention, this is definitely a highly anticipated album for me. Never really checked him out before, but I really like what I've heard.

 

I loved that song he did with Amy Milan. Def gonna give this a go.

He dropped a new song at the end of his Secret Sky DJ set in May called Look at the Sky, btw

 

That set and the madeon set are rad

 

I watch the AG Cook set from secret sky like weekly at this point.

That opening track is the best “emo” song of 2020

tbf, he did it better than most. that first EP is truly groundbreaking and really put OWSLA on the map.

 

Still no date, Nurture what's going on with that but I NEED IT TO BE THIS YEAR.

 

this one's another banger, love it

 

Mirror is absolutely stunning, especially the bridge and the last stutter chorus. Really inventive stuff going on. And the lyrics have this honest and no-pretense quality to communicating, and it’s hitting pretty hard emotionally

 

I truly think Porter is one of the better artists when it comes to conveying emotion in his tracks.

I'm gonna be real with you and say that i initially wrote him off without actually listening to any of his music because of his association with the dudebro EDM stuff at the time. But once i learned that his roots were more in music from Dance Dance Revolution and other music games i did finally give his stuff a chance and i loved it
