Yesterday a bunch of people at work were talking about Lonely Island videos and I started talking about how good this was, and no one really knew about it. This is only an anecdotal example, obviously, but I'm convinced they botched the marketing of this. It seriously breaks my heart that this may prevent future Lonely Island movies because this was my favorite comedy in years
Oh, I saw a ton of ads, but I think it should have been more blatant that it was a Lonely Island production
They should have somehow included clips of their old music videos from songs everyone knows to jog people's memories. Something like "from the guys that brought you I'm On a Boat and I Just Had Sex.." Something to make people aware.
It's pretty hilarious that their Ibiza song came out about the same time that I Took a Pill In Ibiza got huge. Now whenever I hear it on the radio, I say Ibitha.
Yeah, it sucks that terrific comedies like this fly under the radar yet bullshit like Central Intelligence rakes it in and that trite shit is what Hollywood pushes b/c audiences generally suck.
Well, I don't think that's super accurate/fair to Central Intelligence. Not that it's an incredible film, but it underestimates a lot of factors. There's a lot worse shit than Central Intelligence that's worse for movies.
Fair enough. Most recent example I could think of. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with you and agree wholeheartedly. It can be discouraging to see well-received broad comedies go basically unnoticed and witness bigger-budget studio comedies that come off as far more disingenuous earn success. Or maybe I'm just cynical!
I remember seeing previews for it but I've had the same experience - my own brother is a big Andy Samberg fan and he had no idea this film existed.
Yes, but the HC subs are really not that distracting. I actually kinda feel like they weren't there for most of the movie, but maybe I just got used to them.
I've read someone else saying they were only in the first twenty minutes (or so they thought) so thanks for that, might give it a go. I know it's a silly complaint, just easily distracted I guess haha
Watched it last night with the subs and they are definitely in the whole movie, but the are not distracting at all.
Of all the hardcoded movies I've watched, this one was the least obtrusive. You should give it a shot.
