Me and my friends would get stoned, and watched HR probably once every week one summer.

I think we looped the “Oh Kathy” scene maybe 5 times in a row once.

 

I love MacGruber, but the funniest thing about it is that it got made and theatrically released

I love that Will Arnett has arguably one of the top 3 funniest scenes in both of the movies

 

Ughhh I have such a long list of movies to catch up on......but all this talk has got me revved up to rewatch Popstar for like the 10th time tonight.

 

Anytime Kevin is heelying in the background kills me.

 

Is this on any streaming services? Might just buy it this weekend

 

Blu-Ray is more than worth the money, there's like 30 mins of deleted scenes and a bunch more stuff

 

Yea a year ago I bought it on blu-ray because I had been itching to watch it again since the theaters and then a week later it's playing all the time on HBO

 

I’m reviving this thread because I’m watching Hot Rod based on these recommendations and it is reeeeeaaaallllllyyyy not for me so far. The scene with him finding out Frank is sick has been the only thing to make me laugh yet. I’ll report back when it’s over, maybe it just starts slow.

 

I can't comprehend this take, first because I am such a hot rod fan boy, but also I just feel it is a very similar tone to Popstar in terms of the comedy. Idk, I guess not. To each their own!



BUT, Hot Rod is a MASTERPIECE. I found I truly appreciated the movie on several rewatches.

 

I still haven’t seen Popstar, so that I can’t comment on yet. I know it was streaming a few months ago so I’ll have to see if it still is.

 

Also this thread/forum is literally the only place I’ve ever heard Hot Rod mentioned ever in conversation, so I’m still blown away that it seems so universally loved by everyone here.

 

Makes a ton more sense then.

IRL I have about 3 or 4 random friends that hold Hot Rod in such high regard as I do.

 

Speaking of the Lonely Island, I saw the trailer the other day for the new Hulu show PEN15, being executive produced by the three. About two 13-year old girl BFFs in the year 2000, seems cute, reminds me of Everything Sucks. Comes out February 8th.

 

I also hated Hot Rod the first time I saw it, but boy did I come around

 

Of Hot Rod, Popstar, and MacGruber, I think Hot Rod is probably my least favorite. But I love them all.

Don't skip Popstar just because you didn't like Hot Rod. I like both, and although the humor is similar, I feel like Hot Rod isn't nearly as funny.

 

Popstar is definitely objectively better than Hot Rod haha

Yeah sorry I love Popstar, BUT HR has sooo many gold lines.
