I really do feel like this album is the inverse of NS. Sure, NS was plenty heavy, but there were many - and arguably more - moments where the songwriting would embrace the more melodic aspects of her music. Here, even on the prettiest songs, she interjects a heavy bridge and/or screaming. Even on songs like Guardian and The Wait, you get some sludgy guitars in the verses or bridge. You never really get a break from the darkness that permeates the album. NS closed with Halo and I feel like Ribs has that same closer energy until we get bludgeoned with the title track. I love what she did with the sequencing even though I'm not a fan that there's three singles in the first five tracks. Loving this album right now.
Flux is great but I love Zig (even if Poppy hates it). Honestly, I’m a big fan of anything I Disagree onwards (and some tracks from Am I A Girl)
I've got a few listens under my belt, and I think I can say this is a nice continuation of what she was doing on the last album. It feels a little less like Poppy putting on other genres like costume changes and she's merging all those influences into single songs this time around. I appreciate the addition of the catchy choruses in the Knocked Loose cowrites. The Wait feels a lot like the more slowed down moments on the latest Spiritbox album. Dying to Forget is probably my favorite one here, but the whole thing feels slightly more focused and a breeze to listen to.
Negative Spaces I Disagree Am I A Girl? Poppy.Computer Flux Zig I would probably place this album above Flux and below Poppy.Computer right now. the Korn riff was all I could hear immediately.
I saw her on that tour! It was funny because at the time her fanbase was almost entirely pre-teen girls and the most recent time I saw her was almost entirely adult men
Great album to take a run to! Dying to Forget is too good. Overall after listening all weekend long I realize how much heavier this is in comparison to Negative Spaces. Very curious to see what direction she’ll head in next.
Just like Negative Spaces, Empty Hands goes hard. Love it. Feels like they go hand in hand these two albums, and will be on rotation for the next while.
I already heavily overplayed the songs she put out before the album. Loving Dying To Forget a lot as well, but I'm reaaaaally vibing with The Wait at the moment. Beautiful song.
The sleeper hit of the album for me right now is Ribs. Worried it’ll get overlooked so buried in the tracklisting.
hadn't really had a chance to listen to this fully yet, but Empty Hands came on a mix of mine and yep, that's the shit I like.
Feel like If We’re Following the Light is getting overlooked. Song is melodic as hell and some absolutely soaring moments that build.
