I'm more than happy with this album. I think Poppy's most suited to the overall sounds on here. I essentially just wanted a more extreme version of NS and I think that's what we received. That said, I bet this is her last album doing heavy stuff. She doesn't ever stay in one lane for too long.
I already like this more than anything pre-Negative Spaces and I can see it rivalling, maybe surpassing that in time.
After a few listens I think this might be her best, every song on here is so good. I hope these guys make another record together, they bring out the best in each other.
Yeah I think this is fine on first listen, don’t think it’s as consistent or memorable as Negative Spaces. Couple cool tracks throughout though. Might change my opinion with more listens. “Dying to Forget” is very cool and was immediately recognizable as an Isaac track.
Public Domain, Dying to Forget and Empty Hands all are top tier songs. The rest kinda feel like b-sides to Negative Spaces. They're good songs, but are missing the hooks that NS had. Will need to give this a few more listens.
I get why the talk in the lead-up was about if it’d be too much like Negative Spaces, but it’s honestly very surprising to hear anyone say that after a full listen. It’s generally pulling from similar places as she has in the past (not just the last album), and there are moments doing similar things to specific moments from there, but it’s also very much so a new project. Love the balance of soaring, chaotic, and catchy that she’s made her trademark and some of the specific ways she’s playing in those spaces here. Can tell I’m going to spend a lot of time with this.
I loved Negative Spaces, and might actually enjoy this more. Very confused at some of the responses I’m seeing online, especially those saying it’s weaker. For one the heavier tracks sound better and more fleshed out, the melodic tracks sound better written as well.
Unfortunately this did nothing for me. I’ll revisit because I’ve been a fan for so long but I’m mostly over this sound
I'm gonna start my second listen now. The three tracks I mentioned earlier I think surpass a lot of Negative Spaces. The 3 singles I've played to death over the past few months so I kinda wish I held off on them a bit. But on my first listen there were definitely songs like If We're Following the Light that felt like they were building up to something fantastic but then the chorus fell flat for me. Lets see if anything changes on my second go round.
Meh. This is exactly what I feared after seeing Jordan Fish at the helm again and being whelmed by the singles. It doesn't have the highs nor the diversity of Negative Spaces, I just feel like I'm listening to b-sides. Knowing how creative she can get, it's a shame she stays in that same pedestrian alt metal lane almost all along here. This could be released by any other acts going for Octanecore at the moment.
I wish more stuff sounded like this honestly. I'd love recommendations for more stuff that sounds like Unravel, The Wait, Ribs or Dying to Forget. I feel like this is one of the best mixes of heavy/pop I've ever heard.
Yeah, I really liked this on first listen. It's not anything new for her, but she does incorporate the pop elements really well here, which I love.
I like it, but don’t love it the same way Negative Space hit me. That album is so diverse and so is this, so I believe NS just had some more immediate hooks. Other than the singles, the only song that really got me with a “wow, this rips” from a melody perspective was Time Will Tell (which DOES rip, more with every listen!). I should also say that I love the more commercial side of her, and I think Dying to Forget, Eat the Hate and the title track are also bangers for songs that approach more of the guttural sound. I look forward to more spins.
I was surprised to find this album is only 3 minutes shorter than negative spaces. It felt much more concise.
