I was always surprised by them coming out of Russia, then as the details emerged over the next several years of how they were assembled and whatnot and then who they are now. Still like the music, though.
They were some of the first "lesbians" I saw, so you can imagine how damaging that was as the details emerged. That's another conversation for another thread though.
MNEK is finally starting to cross over i guess, but i dont really like this that much (currently at #17) other thoughts: the mike posner track "i took a pill in ibiza" is fucking horrendous, i hope meghan trainor and 21 pilots fall off the face of the earth soon, i love fifth harmony
I was actually thinking of trying to start a Mainstream Radio thread again, but this fills that gap. I dig
I actually really love her solo single, more than this duet definitely. Also made a thread for her next album that won't get much action I'm sure Zara Larsson - New Album (2016) • forum.chorus.fm
She collabed with Jon Mclaughlin ("Falling Over Me"), John Mayer ("World of Chances"), and William Beckett ("For the Love of a Daughter") for Here We Go Again. (The Beckett song ended up on Unbroken.) Also, that song with Nick Jonas ("Stop the World") on that album is one of my favorites of hers. Distinctly remember being in elementary school seeing both "Not Gonna Get Us" and "All the Things She Said" on MTV, getting constant rotation.
Did you ever hear the original one that was supposed to end up on Here We Go Again? I love it so much
also don't forget is so slept on, i lost my shit when she played "the middle" when i saw her two years ago. useless fun fact from the years as a demi stan: she's a metalhead.
I totally expected it to be that old video of her doing pig squeals lol edit idk if they're called pig squeals. My knowledge of that world is none!
Alright, listened to Here We Go Again and is a bit like I expected. Songs are really catchy, lyrics are pretty cheesy but fine. There's a decidedly pop-rock flavor to a lot of it. "Quiet" is the song that really sold me on it. Vocally, she's improved a lot since then, but that's to be expected I think
I honestly dislike her vocals more now. She's too show-offy sometimes. Her current runs remind me a lot of like diet Christina Aguilera and despite what that may seem, it's not a compliment lol
Haha, I listened to that album after that conversation as well. I wanted to like it, but it was just there for me.
Also I just want to say I enjoy this thread. I found an old pop thread on AP and it was so embarrassing how everyone was calling it guilty pleasures or "Songs you'd enjoy if a scene band wrote them" like lol could we try any harder???
I agree. She was just a killer straighforward singer then not (don't hurt me) burdened with sub-Xtina-isms.
The whole reason I started listening to her was how great she sounded on SNL (plus, "Cool For The Summer", I mean c'mon)
lol I called it not a compliment for a reason! I like Christina despite her vocalisms. I can't stand them either. Sis takes an hour to get through a song. I value the Whitney Houstons of the world who know when to go for it and when to hold back
