Finally got to this one. It was fine, I guess. Emma was great. But it just didn’t do much for me. Worth seeing, but I’ll probably never revisit it or think about it. And am I the only one who initially thought they were going to put God’s brain in the general? The goat is a funnier option though.
I get not liking this, but thinking this movie endorses pedophilia makes it really hard for me to think reading and media comprehension isn’t too far gone
As much as I loathed the film, it isn't endorsing the men in her life. It is a commentary on how people like Ruffalo's character are obsessed with physical traits even when she has a literal baby brain. Their intentional avoidance of her growth is why she gets comeuppance at the end. It's like Weekend at Bernie's, where the joke is that the people are so self-involved that they don't realize they are talking to a dead body.
I've seen some tweets that say the movie entirely omits the part of the book where it turns out all of the insane stuff about Bella was made up by Ramy's character, which is kinda interesting
Watched this last night. It's classic Yorgos. Very fucking weird, over the top, but incredibly unique and memorable. A very very solid 8/10 though. I think it ran a little long towards the end (i would've cut the final act) and felt long winded...also I could see how the sex scenes felt a little gratuitous, but i grasp that was kinda the point. Dafoe was amazing in this. I wish I saw this in theaters.
it was definitely a better performance from her than in la la land which she also got best actress for
