It also felt long but then was super rushed the last 30 or so minutes. Ruffalo was the best part but I think you could easily cut out about 10 minutes from his section and maybe 5 or so before he shows up and make a tighter film that flows better.
Another Yorgos masterpiece! It's my first film of 2024 and I would not be surprised if it's my favourite at the end of the year. I absolutely loved everything about it. Also overheard a family speaking as I was leaving and the mother was telling the kids to do better research on the films they go to see lol.
Finally saw this last night and I appreciated the craft more than I enjoyed actually watching it. Also not a prude, but sections of the film did feel to me like “what if… sex? That would be hilarious!” I also felt like the last section was rushed and I would’ve gladly sacrificed some of the middle to get a little more development with Victoria’s husband. Surprised no one has said it in here, but as much as I love Jerrod, I thought he was pretty bad here. No attempt at an accent and the typical “stand-up as actor” arms-length away from the emotional heart of the film. Also, I NEVER check my phone during a movie to see how much time is left, but I did during this one and there was still 40 minutes left.
I thought everything was dialed up enough, and I was into it enough, that neither he nor anything else stood out in a “take me out of the movie” way. Each new bit just made me go, huh, ok, that’s this part’s vibe; got it.
He was great in On the Count of Three. I think he felt slightly out of palace here, but would not go so far as to call it bad.
I haven't seen it. Is it literal age gap discourse or the fact that she starts the film with a child's brain? I feel like the second point is intentionally uncomfortable.
Finally got to this today - very very good. Laughed a whole lot. Was surprised how actually uncomplicated and straightforward it was given its absurd premise. Honestly expected it to be a lot weirder. I kinda dislike over the top saturated CGI set design like that in Lisbon, but I think that’s pretty much all I could’ve done without and can see how it weirdly fit
Ruffalo was hilarious. Him screaming and crying outside her window in the snow... priceless. Emma was hilarious too. Some of her lines were killing me. I thought there was supposed to be nudity in this. I must have blinked during those parts???
