This was the strangest movie I have seen all year. This was the best movie I have seen all year (next to Killers and Oppenheimer) I think Best Actress will go to either Emma or Lily unless Fantasia gets rave reviews (I haven’t seen any reviews yet)
The young women in the back row of the theater were having the time of their lives with this thing. Laughter at basically every funny beat, and cheers when Bella’s prostitute friend was part of the ending scene. It wasn’t the kind of experience I expected with my first big screen Yorgos, but I honestly loved it. There were a couple somewhat older women next to me who apparently appreciated that experience less so. The one said to the other that it must’ve been the younger women’s first time in a theater and they didn’t know they were supposed to “shut the fuck up.” But honestly? Sorry, but they’re wrong! A few times there was noise from the back when there shouldn’t have been, but it was easily a net positive for me. Idk, the heart of the movie is that, when you live, you should really live, and really feel it, not letting misplaced “polite society” bring you down!
death to any audience member distracting from what's going on onscreen, but it sounds like they were just enjoying the movie
Yeah I'm all for enjoying yourself in a theater, laughing at the film, as long as you aren't actively conversing or being too distracting.
I'm also completely blanking on a line I loved, it's when bella is on the roof meeting mark ruffalo and she says something like, "I can't work on myself and do what society wants", it's a play on the double meaning of masturbating and self-improvement
Loved this. Emma Stone and Ruffalo were hilarious. Also shout out to the parents who brought their young children to this for some reason. When they left I heard the dad say, “well we should have read the reviews beforehand. A little to much sexy time for the kiddos.” I really want to know what they thought they were gonna see.
They’re probably just Emma Stone fans from, like, “Easy A.” They’re gonna go home and try and wash out the taste with “The Curse” and realize God has abandoned them.
I don't think there's any possibility I'll like Annette more (but would love if I did). I can't get over how much I loved this.
I wanted to leave when Stone starts stabbing the dead body in the eyes and I really wanted to leave when the nurse/assistant said she tried to touch my hairy business but a friend I had not seen in a long time drove a distance to meet me there so I persevered. The Ruffalo section was much better, mostly because of his commitment to a real role after playing a CGI green giant for so long, but it was such an exhausting experience. Weird for the sake of weird, but not as shocking as it thinks. Every character Bella meets is designed Forrest Gump-like to provide the lesson that the plot requires, except for Max, who doesn't seem to have any personality of his own.
