This isn’t a great film. It leans on being weird for the sake of being weird far too often. No idea how Stone would win over Gladstone. That’s just flat out silly. I did enjoy Ruffalo and some of the first half though.

  2. As much as I understand the importance (or at least the idea of the importance) behind Gladstone winning, I think Stone deserved the win. Kind of tough for Gladstone, she is absolutely the lead actress in KOTFM but has less screen time than any of the other nominees.

Y’know, if you choose to not give a shit about these awards, you get to think about these movies based on the movies themselves and what you thought of them. Instead of which person got a shiny statue instead of which other person.

Idk. I’d take a series of dreaded “rankings” posts over prolonged Oscar talk, lol, but that’s just me.

Ranking is fun. Oscars are not.

I hate all the discourse, and wanted Lily to win, but nothing is worse than — and not directed at anyone here — the screentime factor.

As in, how much screentime Lily got?

Yeah, or any other time it’s been mentioned for any performance. But especially in her case because her performance is the backbone of the film.

  8. To be clear, I'm not saying that's why I thought Stone deserved it over her, just that it was likely unfortunately a factor in the decision.

Totally got that, hence why I said not directed to anyone in here, haha.

I just don’t think Stone’s performance was all that remarkable.

Always do the right thing. Supporter

Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for like 12 minutes of screen time. Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone were both astounding performances but the "louder" one will generally be the one Oscars vote for, hence Hopkins winning for his 12 minutes vs Gladstone's much longer screen time, hence Emma Stone beating Gladstone for the kinds of performances they are, etc.

oh one thing to say that I haven't seen in this thread I think is that the interstitial title cards that happen whenever the settings changes are so, so fucking cool. I absolutely love that visual design

Haven’t read a lot of the thread. Saw this a couple weeks ago and it was good. Dafoe burping bubbles is great. No notes.

    Want to rewatch The Favourite

In no world would I call this a “horny” movie. The sex in it could not be more devoid of horniness

yeah i don’t see an issue with calling it a horny movie even if you see the intent behind the copious amount of nudity and sex lol

Black Swan maybe, don't remember it very well.
I haven't seen Shape of Water but it had a lot of horny fish memes

  24. Those are the three, and probably in the order mentioned lol. The middle-section of this is needlessly horny (and I like the movie).

Black Swan is very horny, though. And The Shape of Water tricked a lot of people like my parents into seeing a covertly horny movie, which is very funny,
