i dont like gladwell but this is something that has stuck with me as fascinating for years now: http://gladwell.com/the-ketchup-conundrum/
I can't read all of that right now, but skimming through it, it looks interesting. I can appreciate ketchup and it's simplicity and how well it compliments certain things, but I usually just feel like it's tomato flavored corn syrup and (personally) I don't ever really need it. If I did want ketchup with something and it was forgotten, I wouldn't probably worry about it.
Being a Chicagoan I'm a huge asshole about this whole thing but here goes...... The proper hot dog is topped with: Mustard Diced white onion Sweet pickle relish 1 pickle spear Tomato Sport Peppers Celery Salt All contained in a poppy seed bun. The bun I'm flexible about. All the other condiments are necessity. No omissions, no substitutions. In a perfect world all hot dogs have fries on them too ala Gene & Judes.
Ketchup if for things that taste bad and kids idk. I pretty much put hot sauce or spicy mustard on everything and anything that needs condiment these days. Wegmans has this amazing Jalepeno Hot Sauce that I consume wayyyy too often and I'm probably destroying my stomach. Never ever put mayo on anything myself but if its already on it I'm not mad.
I assume it already says "Never ruin your Mac and Cheese with ketchup" in the Chorus.fm code of conduct policy, but if it doesn't it really should.
Someone should just make a general condiments thread. Good condiments: Spicy Mustard Cholula Tapatio BBQ Sauce (a bit situational, though. Don't go crazy) Sweet Onion Vinaigrette Mediocre Condiments: Tabasco Relish Ranch A1 Sauce Sriracha Bad Condiments: Mayonaise Ketchup
Mayo in non instant obesity quantities is quite delectable. Took me a long time to come around on it but it's good
I like very light mayo. Just enough to make the sandwich less dry but not enough that I can feel the mayo there
I had it under good then switched it because I realized people use it on way too many things that it shouldn't be used on.
It should not be punished for some people's stupidity! Mixing ranch and sweet baby ray's together makes a really good burger paste, too. Especially if there's like fried onions or jalapenos on it. Dipping fried foods or raw veggies is what I mainly use it for now. I used to use it on salads, but I've become more of an olive oil guy.
Where is the best place to get one of these seattle dogs, I'm visiting from chicago and would love to try one. Also, I've convinced my mom to come see say anything and mewithout you tonight which is awesome.
I've hated eggs my entire life and the ketchup on eggs that was always puke inducing to me. Also whoever said ketchup on chicken fingers has questionable judgment. Honey mustard or ranch only. BBQ for the kids who think they're cool.
Ketchup on eggs is disgusting. My cousin puts it on everything. He also doesn't like tomatoes. I think he hasn't matured past the age of five.
