I decided to check out the Santa Monica Pier today, as it's only a short(ish) metro ride from my apartment. I've seen tons of crazy pictures showing the numerous pokemon, pokestops, and lures at the SMP, and they were all true. I caught some great stuff today, including a few Squirtles and a 650CP Electabuzz. However, after about 45 minutes to an hour my game had crashed/frozen at least a dozen time. I was pretty over so many people playing in such a concentrated area slowing down cell service and causing a lot of the crashes, so I took off for downtown Santa Monica/3rd Street Promenade. There were just as many players, pokestops, and lures along 3rd street, but it was much more spread out, which meant fewer crashes/freezes. I eventually grabbed a seat at a Johnny Rockets that was directly inside a pokestop, dropped a lure, ordered a burger, and went nuts.

 

I instapurchased. Wish it came with a physical manual tho. 71 is a great deal for both versions, and the case looks awesome, but an art book or something would be better.

 

That's basically been my strategy too.

 

How much CP do Pokemon usual gain by evolving?

 

Finally have all the Time Eeveelutions after getting a couple Jolteons, pretty stoked

 

Level 19 now. My highest is a 1307 Vaporean, followed by a 1149 Flareon and a 1026 Electabuzz. Been going to this park downtown that has about 7 or 8 pokestops that are all right in the park. Did laps for like three hours haha. Can't wait to do the same thing tomorrow since I'm off work.

 

Tomorrow is going to be super interesting, I'm going down there for the Borns show on the pier. Kinda worried that Pokemon and the concert are going to collide and make problems

 

I did find that the further down the pier you went the worse things got. If you can, hang out more toward the beginning of the pier.

That being said, so long as your phone is fully charged and/or you have some extra remote battery charger with you it'll still be worth the inevitable frustrations. I was also out there in the middle of the day feeling super hot and tired. If you're out there tomorrow evening it should be easier.

Good luck. Also, the gym at the pier was surprisingly weak.

 

I'm kinda more concerned the other way around haha, that the pokemon kids are gonna interfere with the concert itself. Whatever, I'll have fun either way

 

My mom just called me to let me know there was this new app where you could go outside with your phone and walk around to catch Pokemon. Gee, thanks Mom. I had no idea.

 

This game refuses to give me the third and final eeveelution, swear I've evolved like 20 eevee at this point and they're all jolteon and vaporeon

 

I've only seen/caught 2 Eevees :(

 

Really? I catch 5-10 eevee a day by my apartment alone. More when I go to the park near by.

 

I've gotten a Jolteon and Vaporeon, haven't caught enough to try a third evolution yet

 

Been a week and I've yet to catch a single Pokemon in my neighborhood without incense. But I got a Squirtle and Machop at the park today and hatched a Charmander and a Sandshrew so basically it's the best day.

 

Hatched a CP255 Cubone today. Was pretty stoked.

 

Gods be good, just got myself a 1056 flareon

 

So I had an half hour to kill before an appt today. So I went to a park, fired up an insense and started walking. I caught about 3 Pokemon that whole time. Because my app kept crashing. I'd find a Pokemon, throw a pokeball at it. Then it would zoom up on the pokeball and freeze. It wouldn't wobble or anything. Just freeze like that. Then I'd have to restart. It was so frustrating. They were all lame, weak pokemon, so I don't feel like I missed out on anything great, but it was just so frustrating.

I'm only one Pokemon away from having the candies for a Pidgeot, Nidorina, Nidorino, and Ratticate. And I was hoping to get those on the walk. Oh well. I did hatch a decently leveled Staryu though. So that was cool.

 

I live in a secluded neighbourhood I guess. I just went for a walk to the only pokestop and it took 10 minutes for a Pokemon to even show up on my nearby list. Ended up staying out for half an hour tracking down a jiggly puff that finally showed up.

 

Catching lots of good shit but no strong ones. Level 17 and I'm 2 or 3 levels above my gf but she just keeps catching the same things as me except way stronger. I mean a level 66 Jynx is just about as useless as you can get.

 

Not sure if I quite understand the appeal of standing around a gym yet? Every time there's been one or two people posted up.

But I did take a little bit of a different route on my walk and caught a Ponyta and a Lickitung so I'm pretty happy

 

Don't worry everyone. My day was not wasted. Just hatched a Squirtle out of a 2km egg.
