I've heard that it's around 15-20mph that the game stops counting your distance. You'll see the white loading poke ball in the top corner if you do. You can still do everything else, though

 

Yeah the distance thing is weird. I do a lot of traveling by tram and sometimes it counts the distance towards my eggs and sometimes not.

 

This is on my campus and I'm giving up hope.

 

seriously. the gap between kids on summer break/ casuals who work 9-5 is becoming huge and disheartening :\

Please people! You can't give up after a week. The gym thing doesn't even compare to the amount of fun it is actually going out and searching for the pokemon themselves.


If I can work both my jobs and am a level 11 than you can do it too. Gotta venture out! Having somebody as close as my girlfriend to go do so with helps a lot.

 

And if I don't have a Blue-Eyed White Dragon by the end of the week i'm gonna kill myself.

 

I'm enjoying collecting so much more than trying to take gyms. Took one on day 2 and held it for a day but didn't mind losing it.

 

i haven't attacked a gym yet. im lvl 11 but im scared. everyone around here is 15+

 

i held a gym for all of five minutes today before i was either ousted by an opponent or a team member. whatever. took the stardust and coins and headed back to the office anyway. lots of good shit in the harbor. picked up a poliwhirl and i'm close to evolving a tentacool.

 

Wow. So in order to "take" that gym you have to have a pokemon that can defeat that dragonite, plus all of the other 3 levels of the gym?

 

I don't understand the benefit of holding a gym. I have left pokemon at 3 different ones now, and they get returned to me with no additional CP.

 

The game does not give credit for distance if you are doing anything besides walking.

It also does not track distance unless the app is open and you are literally moving to different locations. I.E. walking on treadmill with the app open does not give you "steps"

This is my biggest pet peeve right now. I get no credit for jogging on a treadmill everyday when I believe that I definitely should.

 

If you go into the shop on your app and look at the top right, you can collect daily "Defender Bonus" which gives you coins and stardust I believe.

 

The game has no way of knowing how you're moving, just that you are. That's why people ride their bikes. I also kept it open in the car once and it counted minuscule distance because of the short times I'd drive very slowly at a stoplight/sign

 

Had to warn two kids that they were on private property today. I was kinda hoping one of them was PoonPlundererIV.

10?! That's worth zilch in the store. Do you get this once a day? When is the payout? At midnight?

 

once a day, dunno when it gets available. you can hold up to ten gyms at once. so if you have ten in one day you get 100 coins and 5000 stardust, which is a lot if you want to power up the pokemon in those gyms and hold them longer. im sure it accumulates fast once yo have a few.

 

you have to wait 21hrs to use the defender bonus again

 

Update available in the App Store. Supposedly they've changed Google's Scope and a couple of other issues.

 

I don't see it in Google Play yet, hope it comes soon

 

Do you get a better payout if you are the highest level trainer that is holding the gym?

 

It's based on actual GPS, not steps taken.
