I was thinking of that but apparently the older games have been soaring in price lately aren’t they? There’s also a lot of scammers making fake versions
There are not any 3DS fakes. It’s quite easy to find legit GBA games if you know where to look on the labels. You’d have to change the battery because most of them would be dead by now and it will prevent you from access to certain caves.
You can at least buy R/B/Y and G/S/C in their original forms on the 3DS eShop officially from Nintendo. They’re only $10 each. And then you can get the Gen 3 remakes for $40 each, which sucks considering they’re almost 8 years old at this point but it’s easier than trying to track down a physical copy for less than that.
I’ve looked into buying DPP and BW online and a lot of those are reproduction cartridges and not original games which is a bummer.
Facebook Marketplace is where I find most of the authentic copies. I did have to toss out $150 for an authentic HG, though.
Question for the group: are X/Y good enough to buy and play for the first time now? All the news this week has me wanting to go back and experience some of the Pokémon content I missed (everything from Gens 4-6) and X/Y are the only ones that are easy to come by (can get them digitally on the 3DS eShop). Really X/Y and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are the only easily available games I didn’t play (I did play base Sun version).
I liked X/Y way, waaaaaaay more than sun/moon. And probably more than sword/shield too. So I’d say yes!
I'd recommend X/Y, especially because they were the first newer Gen games I played that helped get me back into Pokemon. It's really easy if you don't turn the Experience Share off, but it's a joy to play through.
The DLC is worth it especially just for the Crown Tundra. I've really gotten back into Shield this week with me restarting the game and early shiny hunting. X/Y is one of the best of the series. The map is cool and the mons from that generation are great. At the time I didn't like Megaevo, but I grew to love it. One of the better stories too.
I never played D/P. I’m torn between thinking the chibi style is stupid, and thinking it’s cute and will be a nice different looking Pokémon game. Legends looks so cool as a concept, but I hope the graphics and frame rate improve a bit
