Ive never ever transferred my old Pokemon to a new game because I like to treat each team as a distinct entity and form attachments to new Pokemon. I would never have learned about how much I loved Togekiss, Misdreavous, or Crobat (to name a few) if I didn't switch things up. My X/Y Magnezone with perfect EV training is one bad motherfucker but it would take the shine away from the new mons for me. I understand why other people are pissed about not having that feature available though.
I like to use a mix of new Mons and Mons from past Gens that I never used but seem cool. There are enough interesting new Pokemon and regional forms in Sword/Shield that I might just stick to those (and ditch the starter eventually due to monotyping).
I never transfer over and wouldn’t even know how, but I think it doesn’t make sense to leave Pokémon out of the game. That’s like their whole thing, have them all.
I've been transferring over my favorite Mons, and lately just all of them, for going on 15 years now. I'm just worried they won't have a real home now that none of them are supported. It feels a lot like when I lost mons between the GB and GBA. I know there will eventually be a place for everything... I just wish they weren't in Limbo. Also, god dammit I lost a lot of Mons to that Ranch game on the Wii.
I never transferred either, I feel like putting them on this kind of platform will make me want to in the future though. I definitely feel like there might be a continuation to this game once they have the proper time to develop from here on out.
`Yeah I just treat every game like a separate journey and don't even bother transferring. It's more fun for me that way.
I really like that a lot of my favorite Gen 5's (Galvantula, Ferrothorn, Jellicent, Chandelure, Golurk, Durant) made it into the game!
people seem to think a lot of the gen 1-4 omissions will be made up for when they remake D/P for the switch.
as someone who hasn't done much upwards transferring in past games, do they typically adjust stats or would a mon with perfect IVs come over with the same IVs?
Potential leak says Applin’s evolution depends on which game you have. Flapple if you have Sword or Appletun if you have Shield.
I've seen more negativity this gen then I ever have. And I get it, they are making decisions that a lot of people don't agree with based on the way they play the games. I totally get why people are mad, but I also totally get why Game Freak are doing what they are doing. It just sucks to see so much negativity and so little positivity.
The Dexit folks are a loud minority. This gen is going to sell incredibly well regardless of what the internet is upset about.
Well looks like Nintendo is striking down a lot of the leak info. Not surprised. Oh well, only 10 days away!
The Dexit folks are also in the right, even if they act like shitters about it. There's no excuse for a franchise of this size to be cutting corners.
I'm not denying that! I was just saying that the ones who are very vocally upset and won't buy the game won't make a huge dent in the sales. Considering the popularity of the Switch, I bet Sword/Shield is going to be one of the best selling Pokemon games ever.
But it's not cutting corners. If you listen to interviews with Game Freak, they make it explicitly clear that they aren't cutting the dex because of the work or effort. It was an intentional decision to make the number of Pokemon in each game more manageable. Cramming 900 creatures in the game would be a little ridiculous, and it will become even more cumbersome as the series progresses. I totally get their reasoning.
What you just described sounds exactly like cutting corners. What are "manageable" and "cumbersome" in reference to if not development?
Playing the games. With almost 1,000 pokemon, it's gotten to the point where it almost feels like a chore and not really fun to catch all of them. I wouldn't have minded a little more (500-600 maybe) but still. I'm probably explaining it really poorly. There are interviews where they go into it better than i could, but as a player who never transfers old mons, going back and catching 1,000 monsters is far more tedious than 400 or 500.
