I highly doubt they would retire Ash, he's too iconic and popular

 

Now that he's champion they could wrap up his story by making him a gym leader. That way there's plenty of scope for cameos and further storylines should they want.

It’d be cool if the tournament participants were randomized so you played against a variety of trainers each time you played.

Maybe if this was any company other than GameFreak. If anything, I could see you having a list of opponents to face (all different types) so that can mix and match who you start with. That's only if GameFreak is feeling incredibly generous.
