This is true. A kid on my playground in elementary school convinced everyone he did it while at lunch.
It was a rumor that was spread around during FR/LF (may have been earlier than that but I'm not sure) that stated you could get Mew that way in those games.
fuck, ppl not knowing the old genwun copypastas makes me feel so fuckin old. i bought every single one hook line and sinker
Back when I was in 5th grade, there was this kid that knew a lot of shit about upcoming episodes of the anime and like development on gold and silver. He was always brag about how he was in this super secret Pokémon club that got exclusive information from japan. Nobody really believed him until he predicted togepi. From then on you had to basically kiss his ass for some info. Turns out there was no club. He was just one of the only people at school that had internet. This was before widespread use of the internet by the way. So yeah I’m old
I remember there was a rumor during gen 1 that Eevee or Ditto could somehow turn into a Mew and that Magikarp's splash had a 1% chance of being a KO. I never finished a full game until gen 2 and mainly collected cards during gen 1 so I remember thinking how amazing it was that all of these "tricks" were in the games.
There was a kid named Ricky Denny in my second-grade class and he told everyone that during "show-and-tell" he would be able to get card protectors for every card that a student brought to class. I was one of the ten or so people that did brought cards and he stole all of them during recess and burnt them when he got home. The kid was weird and was always quoting South Park but I was an idiot for believing him.
omg i had a kid like that kinda, but he just got imported japanese copies of Gold/Silver prior to the localization. no idea if he was really able to get far in them, but it was cool af to catch glimpses of. we got on that AOL level pretty fast compared to most families, especially in the south. i lived on pojo.
Want to know how much time I have at work? I'm going through Facebook profiles trying to get you an answer. Turns out, Ricky Denny calls his son Ricky Denny.
So he's Ricky Denny JR. Or even worse, he could be Ricky Denny the Third. What is this? Talladega Nights?
i think the rumors in chile were a little different, i definitely heard about pikablu but i didnt hear about the mew in vermillion harbor until i moved to the states. the one i heard was that if you left a magikarp in the daycare center in blue and left it there for a really long time, when you came back you'd get a mew. also the korean kids in my school had gold and silver before most of us even knew what that was. we all thought they were bootleg games. there was also always the urban legend that some kid in school traded a holo charizard for a caterpie.
I never knew anything about shiny Pokemon until I caught a shiny Roselia in either Diamond or an Emerald emulator. Never thought anything of Red Charizard or Ash's Noctowl.
my cousin brought out the og Pokémon board game and I am so sad it's so expensive to get. It's a lot of fun.
Got back into Pokemon TCG online. don't know who else plays but i've been enjoying it. almost got enough trainer tokens to buy one of the Sun & Moon decks. going through all the trainer challenges right now to get booster packs.
I’ve always wanted to play this but I almost never use my laptop anymore. If it was on phones I would definitely do it.
