I fucking loved Gen 4, Torterra second favorite starter Pokémon. Really loved the layout, the music, the gyms...didn't care for the legendaries much but I've never cared about them at all aside from Lucia so they don't ever factor in to my opinion.
I re-played a lot of the old games recently and when I got to gen 4 I didn't even make it all the way to the Pokemon League. it's just quite a boring game imo. I love some of the Gen 4 Pokemon, but other than that...
I think my problem with Diamond and Pearl is that the battles move so slowly. It probably didn't seem as bad when they came out, but it is frustratingly noticeable when I try to play them now. HGSS weren't quite as bad.
Gen 4 is the only generation I've never played... but I'd probably play it if a new version was released. None of that versions Pokémon really excites me enough as a whole.
Of the different ways they've made up to change the first generation, I'm gonna rank them worst to best: Gen 4 ugly evos Gen 2 babies Alolan forms Mega evolutions Like black and white where they just make a bunch of new stand alone pokes
I like the babies way more than the Alolan forms. I'd rather just have new Pokémon. But I will say that the babies never thematically made sense to me.
Babies are weird because they weren't to make anything stronger, all other changes seemed to be trying to buff the past because they kept making each new generation overpowered. Still hoping for a Gen 1 reboot for the next games, with form variations and mostly just higher stats.
Found on Reddit: someone has already made an online team builder for Sun and Moon. If you don't mind seeing all of the pokemon that'll be in the new game it's a really cool thing: Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon Team Planner
So I hadn't played a game since Ruby/Sapphire and then last year I picked up Y when my friend encouraged me to get back into it and now I'm hooked. I can't wait for Sun/Moon. I'll be joining you all in here frequently over the next few weeks.
