I don’t think it has to do with people being upset. They’d have to immediately create three new pokedexes for the game and that’s unlikely

Aren't Meltan/Melmetal technically gen 7 Pokemon? Which gen are they listened under on PoGo?

 

Right now they are unknown. Definitely gen 8.
