It hasn't been glitchy and I haven't had server issues in probably over a week. It's been super pleasant.

 

I guess I don't really understand gyms?? I read a couple of articles that said I could put Pokemon into a gym of the same team but do I have to beat the lowest level Pokemon to do that? I only had the option to battle and I lost. By what I read I had thought that I could just put in one and be done but maybe not?

 

If the gym is held by the same team as you, you have to battle (in this case, "train") against it until it raises up the level. If the gym is at Level 2, only two people can be in. If it is Level 3, only three people can be in it, etc.

So basically, you have to raise it up ONE level so that you can place ONE more Pokemon in it. You'll see something called "prestige" if you manage to beat at least one of the gym's Pokemon, and you'll be able to see how many more points you'll need to get to the next level. You may have to beat the same Pokemon multiple times in order for the gym to move up the next level. So if it's your own team, battling builds the level up. If it's a different team, battling brings it down. Hope that makes sense.

Edit: Oh, and remember that the second you get your Pokemon into the gym, go into the "Shop" option in your main screen. You'll see a green shield in the top right corner that will let you redeem some coins.

 

This is very helpful!! I had definitely thought that I could just slot one in without battling. I came pretty close but as a level 14 I can't compete much with the level 25+ people who own the gyms here. But at least with this I understand it better, thank you so so much!

pokedetector no longer works and i'm already playing the game 600% less. hope it was all worth it for that 50 dollar bracelet no one is going to buy, niantic.

imagine seeing the kind of success this was having and managing to squander it within a month, repeatedly tripping over your own dick at every opportunity.

 

I was thinking this morning, what is the use of the compass? As far as I'm aware it serves zero purpose - why not instead of having the footsteps tell you when the nearest pokemon is, they just have a N, E, S, W direction or something. Would be way better than thinking you're going in the right direction then the pokemon dropping down the list like it does.

 

Anyone else having issues with steps not being recorded for eggs?

 

Yeah, my walk to work is several km, and it registed 0.5.

Also, used a lucky egg waiting for two 10km eggs to hatch. They were both Pokemon I already had. Kill me.

 

Everyone is so angry haha.

 

worse, i literally lost distance on an egg at one point. went from 2.5 to 2.4.

 

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

 

Just bought a portable charger. Much needed.

 

You'd be surprised what you can still do at level 14 though! It's harder to level up your own gym because it's only 1 vs. 1, but when you battle other teams' gyms, you get a team of six to do as much damage as you can. If you can get all six of yours to even knock down one of theirs, it will bring them down a bit.

If it puts it in perspective, I'm at level 20 and I still just seek out gyms that only have two or three people in it. haha.

 

has anyone hatched a starter?

 

One Squirtle... Two Pikachus if you count that. Seems pretty good until you consider the 20 Zubats, Caterpies, Pidgeys and Rattatas I've hatched.

 

I've hatched all of the starters. I've actually been getting more distance on my eggs. Not sure if it is tracking more car movement or what. Not complaining.

 

I hatched a Charmander last night. I've been keeping my app open on my runs and hatching eggs like crazy.

Also god dammit. Just caught a shitty Eevee (130CP) and my coworker came to talk to me and I accidentally evolved it instead of transferring it. Fuck lol.

Also also, for gyms, I finally took down my first one last night and put my Pokemon in it. I claimed 10 coins right away and then got the 21 hour timer. Is it better to wait a little bit after taking a gym to redeem coins? Will I get more the longer my Pokemon is in the gym?

 

The more Pokemon you have in gyms at the time you collect will increase the multiplier. So ideally get your Pokemon in as many gyms as quickly as possible before they get kicked out, and then collect. It's a risky biz.

 

You only get more coins and stardust if you have multiple pokemon stationed in gyms

i still haven't noticed the game being any different at all, lol.

i also never used maps so like it doesn't change my enjoyment of the game one bit

 

Found a new little spot with about six Pokestops and a gym on my way home yesterday, so I stopped by after work. The gym only had a few weaker Pokemon in it, so I started taking it out and each time there would be more Pidgeots and stuff in there before I could get my guys in. Super confusing. I just kept defeating it over and over, and FINALLY it let me put a Pokemon in. So I grabbed my coins and left, but when I got around the corner, I heard a bunch of kids fighting with each other saying "STOP TAKING MY GYM". Whoops. haha.

 

I have hatched all 3 starters, a Diglett, a Jigglypuff, a Geodude, and still no Pikachu.
