Found this on Reddit. Think it's a pretty good resource for people like me who are only familiar with Gen 1!

So, for those unfamiliar with how gen II rolls (nevermind the fact that Gen II started 18 years ago, and gen I by itself didn't last that long):

• Gen II Pokemon are generally weaker than Gen I ones.
  
• Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile are starters, so they'll probably act like Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.
  
• Larvitar is the Dratini equivalent; Tyranitar is therefore the Dragonite equivalent.
  
• No Lapras or Snorlax equivalent; the closest things are Heracross and Miltank, which are quite similar to Pinsir and Tauros respectively.
  
• Hoothoot is like Spearow, Sentret is like Rattata, Spinarak and Ledyba is like Caterpie and Weedle (but with a single evolution; Ariados and Ledian are Butterfree/Beedrill tier).
  
• Marill and Snubbull are quite similar to Pikachu, Clefairy and Jigglypuff.
  
• Togetic, Murkrow, Misdreavus, Aipom, Yanma, Gligar, Sneasel and Piloswine had evolutions introduced in gen IV, so start to stock on their candies. Porygon2 can also evolve even further in that gen, so if you have a good one do not waste many candies.
  

 

Are there any Gen 2 -> Gen 3 cross evolutions?

 

This has easily been the best day I've ever had on this game. 31 new entries in the pokedex, a wild Dragonite w/ hyperbeam catch, got three 10km eggs and, finally, almost 100,000xp to get me to level 30! I had no idea 'max revive' even existed!

See what happens when you complain? Good things happen!

Edit: Make that 32 with the Pineco I just caught!

 

I'm at 21 new, but I haven't been out of the building yet - hopefully when I leave for lunch I'll pick up a few more.

 

Found a king's rock and got Slowking

 

Dude. No. Gen II is here and you are still getting Dragonite spawns?! haha

 

is there any reason to keep a male and female of each pokemon?

 

Probably for when breeding is implemented.

i'm just trying to figure out how to organize my team. probably already gonna spend two bucks to expand by 100 but ughhh lol

 

Wooper is god damn adorable.

 

I know it's common but damn she's gorgeous.

 

In addition to Slowking, I found a metal coat and got Steelix

 

A Larvitar showed up of my radar last night during a Pokewalk. I walked about half a mile out of the way to it, only for it to literally run away as I was waiting to cross the cross the street to get to where it was. I wanted to throw my phone when it took off.

 

Feels like knowing nothing about this gen makes them more exciting
Things like Furret and Ariados are probably common as hell but they're cool to me

I'm new to the whole IV checking thing, but is it basically evolve my highest IV mons?

 

If you give a damn about gym battling and powering up then yes.

 

Anybody know which Pokémon are continent exclusive?

 

same as before, none have been found as exclusives from Gen2

 

Man, been to tons of stops today and not a single stone.

 

Same here, but I'm kinda glad. If it was really easy to get stones then what's the point? I'd rather have to spin 200 stops to get one than to spin 5

 

I think maybe when you hit your 7 day streak you might be guaranteed an evolve item? Or at least a very good chance. Would make sense to me anyways.
