Oh nice, I didn’t realize it would show your battle rating on your badge once you hit rank 7. Curious what the rating will actually get you if the reward pool is all the same for levels 7-10.

 

been using premium passes on the battles in efforts to get another scraggy but he seems rare? i got him right away but since then have only been getting meditite and tepig from premium battles - not worth wasting the pass on.

 

it's not the ranking oddly enough, it's more of a high score thing, it goes up when you win rather than down. im curious what the higher tiers get you in the end as well, im at rank 7 and a few wins away from 8. i am pretty sure 8 is where im gonna plateau unless i get on a crazy lucky streak. im just grinding as much as i can until the announce how you get luchador Pikachu because i need that fuckin thing

 

i have gotten one additional Scraggy and one Litwick and the rest have been starters, Machop, or Skarmory. i really want another Deino but im done using the passes as well.

 

Yeah the first Scraggy is a sure get once you are rank 4, but after that it seems hard to get. I stopped battling after getting it. I would like a Deino but it doesn't seem worth the trouble.

 

Your rank apparently can go up and down, but only between ranks 8-10 based on whatever your rating is. I assume they're just using some kind of Elo system for the matchmaking. With the ongoing rewards pool being the same for ranks 7-10, I'm guess maybe the higher ranks will get some kind of (better) end of season reward?

• Rank 7: Win 10 battles as rank 6.
• Rank 8: Reach a battle rating of 1,800 or higher.
• Rank 9: Reach a battle rating of 2,100 or higher.
• Rank 10: Reach a battle rating of 2,700 or higher.

Your rank will not decrease when you lose battles if you are under rank 8 but after that losing a battle will affect your rank and your opponents will be of a similar rank.

 

I wonder how integral battling will be to the actual game itself down the line, or if it's just a fun optional thing. I assume every now and again they'll release a battle-exclusive pokemon, and i'm sure winning battles will be part of future special research.

 

The battle league is awesome (especially the rewards), but I'm slowly realizing that if you don't just play Pokemon in the meta you are going to have a hard time winning. I've kind of just been testing teams out and whatnot and using Pokemon that are lower on the tier list so my win/loss ratio is terrible.

I get that this is supposed to be the competitive part of the game, but it is getting rather tedious constantly running into Medicham, Skarmory, Registeel, Azumarill, Deoxy's, and Bastiadon. (To be honest, I'm probably saying this because I don't really have any of these that are high enough in pvp IV's to use).

 

yeah, i don't think battle league is for the average/casual player, because it really takes a good amount of work/time to get a solid team together. a few friends of mine are pvp crazed and took my account and found a team for me and it's been going well lol, i think it's great for those who have the time/knowledge to put into it but, i am wayyy more of the casual catch and raid type of player. i have no real interest in PVP, i only do it now bc somehow i have this crazy good trio that doesnt lose lol

 

i think a lot of the meta staleness we are seeing is going to be fairly exclusive to Great League and to a lesser extent Ultra League. Master League will likely be way more of a sandbox. it will still be a lot of legendaries and dual typings but removing the CP threshold is gonna do a lot for variety i think

 

Its crazy how bad a lot of the legedaries are in actual battle lol

That's what I've been thinking to be honest. I only recently learned that "pvp rankings" were a thing and have been playing catchup. However, because I've always just based transferring/keeping Pokemon on the main IV's that I've checked for years I'm gonna have some really powerhouses in the master league, but I'm pretty much starting fresh in the great/ultra leagues.

I will say that I feel like Niantic antcipated this problem and a lot of the reward pokemon I've gotten have been meta relevant and had really good pvp rankings. I got a medidite that has perfect IV's for great league that I've actually almost been able to power up all the way.

 

ive done exactly the same thing re: only keeping high iv mons. however, it either doesnt make a huge difference or a huge majority of the playerbase is in the same situation, because ive been running 96-100% iv mons and winning on average 3 out of every 5 fights, so luckily it's not that prohibitive. at least not yet.

 

The Onix thing today is pretty cool, but that's my commute hour, I'm always almost exclusively in a car from 6-7 :(

 

yeah i personally am not crazy about the 6-7 slot, but theyre never going to be able to appease the masses, so i try to make it work as best i can. i personally hate the 11am comunity day start.

 

I always work from 11 to 2 on the weekend so those CD hours are the worst for me. It was perfect when it was from 2 to 5.

 

Yeah I'm definitely aware that you can't please everyone, but it does bum me out a little!

 

got to rank 8 with a 5 win streak and then got smashed 5 games in a row. i think 8 is where ill remain haha

I’m annoyed because I spent money so I could buy coins and battle all day today since I schools got cancelled because a really bad storm is about to roll through and I don’t have to teach today

 

So what’s the exploit that they are patching? Briefly saw something on reddit but didn’t care to read

 

I’ve been getting absolutely smoked in battle league. I think I have 6 wins in 28 matches.
