my local trash is doduo, though i haven't seen as many lately

 

ive seen 2 doduos, caught 0. one of those times the app crashed which is annoying, but whatever

 

I caught a Doduo in Central Park. Only one I've seen. It's almost entirely bugs where I am.

 

Hatched a 10km egg yesterday. It was a 387 Dratini, I guess it isn't bad, but I expected better. I caught my third Doduo yesterday. Also, I saw my second Charmander ever (other than my starter pokemon), and just like the first one I saw, it ran away. Ugh.

Confused by people who are hating on Poliwag. Poliwrath is a fuckin beast.

 

Pretty much no doubt in my mind that Jynx started as a racist caricature.

 

I've been looking into some of the Jynx stuff. Its weird how very different all of these potential origins are.

What Jynx is based on is a controversial topic within the fandom, although common interpretations are a Nordic or a Viking woman (possibly Hel, goddess of the underworld), or ガングロganguro (face-black). Also, the fact that Jynx are depicted as Santa's helpers in the anime may reference the folklore character Zwarte Piet.

Jynx also has the traits of a female opera singer, especially the iconic cartoon depiction of the fat lady; Pokémon Snap and its third generation sprites depict it singing, especially the Emerald sprite that animates it singing a high note. Jynx may also have origins in the Japanese spirits known as Yuki-onna, who lack feet, akin to Jynx's feet being covered by its dress.

It may also be based on Yama-uba (also called Yamanba), a yōkai which is described as always wearing a tattered red kimono, having whitish-blonde hair, control over snow, dark-colored skin, and large lips, traits which are evident in Jynx. "Yamanba" is also a slang for the extreme end of ganguro fashion, which involves bleached hair, artificial tanning, and heavy applying of brightly-colored lipstick.

Its revised coloring may be based on purple discoloration of the skin, a common symptom of frostbite. This fits with Jynx's Ice type and how it is found in very cold places.

 

I feel like it's gone in waves with what are the most common around here. Doduos were like every five Pokemon for me when the game first came out, then it changed to Poliwags. I saw 0 and then I saw like 30. It also seemed like I was finally making ground on some like Ghastly where I caught five really quickly, and now I haven't seen any for two weeks.

 

And now I'm going down the path of other Pokemon origins. I didn't know Hitmonlee was based on a Greek myth of headless men.

 

Surprise Surprise I've never seen a doduo, not even a silhouette on the radar! It's hilarious how bad my area is for it, yet some have caught 130+ in the pokedex!!!

I'm at 136/137 right now. I need Alakazam, Machamp, Snorlax, Raichu, and Muk to complete the North American Pokédex. I feel like Muk is going to be the most difficult unless I get lucky. Also, Snorlax needs to hatch for me soon.

I have a muk and its awesome. 1300CP. Caught it right outside my house one night.

Give me all of your gyrados for it.

 

Is there a place where one can see all of the origin stories?

 

I can't fathom the amount of work it takes to get a Gyrados or a Charizard. I have like 10 Charmander and Magikarp candies. Also, I have 0 Dratini candies. So yeah, I don't think I will get any of those within the next 5 years.

 

Once trading opens up, I've got a Gyarados for everyone on this thread lololol.

 

I got so lucky with the Dratini fam: got a <200 CP Dragonite outside of work, and then hatched a Dratini that, with the three candies from Dragonite combined with the candies from hatching, I was able to instantly evolve into Dragonair.

 

Anyone have a farfetch'd?

 

aren't they Asia exclusive?

 

Apparently the new tracker isn't just in San Francisco, some people in NC have it as well and possibly other areas.

 

I heard (could be wrong though) the exclusives can be hatched regardless of location, just can't be found in wild outside of their exclusive area.

 

That'd be pretty awesome if true. That being said, I am level 21 and have NEVER gotten a 10k egg, so I don't know what is going wrong with me
