Brewing 4 10ks right now, hatched an eevee and an electrabuzz earlier from 2 other 10ks, hoping for a Lapras and an aerodactyl

 

Hung out at Boston Common and Public Garden last night, it was awesome. At least 100 people hanging out under four lures, plenty of other lures on throughout the parks. Apparently we missed a Lapras by about 30 minutes, some guys were telling us about the stampede when it showed up. We'd never even seen a Vulpix before, but now it's a crazy Vulpix nest and I already have enough candy to get a Ninetails. Going back again tonight after dinner.

 

There's a large park/zoo area in Providence that used to be a Squirtle nest. I never went because my sister thought it would be sketchy at night (when we usually drive around and do our poke hunting). It just changed to a Charmander nest so she finally agreed to go. It was funny to drive around and then cars stopping suddenly, cops patrolling the area, kids on bikes, I got like 10 Charmanders. One every 5-10min.

 

I caught 10 Magmars within an hour today! Wtf!

commenters on that article seem to think that the steps were actually disabled to achieve server stability

 

Finally got a ton of common Pokemon I was missing this weekend. Horsea, Growlithe, Diglett, Magnemite, and Lickitung. Also ready to evolve a bunch to get Kingler, Starmie, Arbok, Seaking, and Victreebell when I get a Lucky Egg. I'm over halfway through level 19 so I'm pretty well loaded up.

Also, highlight of today was catching a maxed out Eevee (for my trainer level). It should be a beast once I level up.

Avatars - We are seeing an option to customize trainer appearance (after creation)! This bodes well for future customizeability.

Battle - For those who missed it, Damage Per Second (DPS) has been revamped for nearly every move in the game, bringing balance to the force. This makes combat immensely more fun. See the /research section for the updated DPS.

Nest Shakeup - A majority of nests around the world are now spawning different species! It's great to see species variety like this, though it appears certain species (Dratini...) have been made significantly more difficult to acquire for now.

Transfer Button - This button is no longer at the bottom of the Pokemon details screen! This will make transferring much more efficient. You are also prevented from accidentally transferring a 'favorite' pokemon. (nice! thanks to /u/beardie88 for this: )

Bug fixes - Tons of bug fixes in this update, including with maps, Gyms, encounters, and memory leaks

The Unknown

Damage Calculation - Apart from modifying the DPS for most moves, there appears to be a change to the damage formula itself. Details are scarce right now - research is ongoing!

The Controversial

Distance Indicator (Steps) - The 'nearby' pane appears to have removed the 'steps' altogether. The last we've heard about the motivation for this controversial decision is that it was due to safety concerns. While we don't necessarily agree with this decision, we'll have to see how it plays out.

Fortunately, it at least appears that there's a silver lining:

It appears that Pokemon you've spotted on the map now stay on the map for roughly 300m (an increased distance)

So while we no longer can use the steps to triangulate Pokemon distance, it appears they should be much easier to actually encounter once they appear on the nearby scanner.

 

Any advice on when to use which ball? I just got ultra balls

 

Hell if I know. A 10CP Caterpie has broken from a Pokeball four times while I've caught a 900CP (it was ??? and I was out of all other types) Pinsir with one throw of a Pokeball.

 

when Dratinis have been made even rarer and you've only ever seen one the whole 3 weeks you've played the game...

 

This is probably a bad follow-up post to the one above, but I had a Dragonite spawn out of nowhere in downtown Cleveland today. Gave it a berry and caught it on the first great ball.

use the best ball you have if the pokemon is relatively rare, semi high leveled, and you're worried about it potentially running away. that's my rule.

 

An electabuzz spot became scyther for me, I like them switching it up

 

About to be at LAX for a few hours, curious what it's like stop-wise

 

How are people finding these nests? I have found a few spots in town where random Pokemon continue to spawn, but never the same ones.

 

I don't know about a "nest", but I've caught about 15 Scythers at a park in town. When I went there today for a second, I didn't see a single one, so who knows if it got changed... PS I was somewhat disappointed to get a Scyther out of my 10K egg today. Also got three Caterpies and a Zubat out of my last four 2K eggs... Ugh.

I bet they add "trade" to that list of options on the Pokemon view screen eventually. It would fit nicely in the list before "Transfer"

 

I noticed that too so I'll probably be giving this game up soon lol it's fun, but if it doesn't work the only times I'm able to play, why would I not complain?

 

While I was reading about the changes in the new update I came across a comment about Twitch Plays Pokemon. Man, what a great experience to have been a part of. That was more fun than any of the last couple Pokemon games. Anarchy, and the lore! THE LORE! Bird Jesus, Air Jordan, All-Terrain Venomoth, The False Prophet Flareon, Bloody Sunday, and of course LORD HELIX.

Cant believe that was over two years ago.

Also, I've never seen a dratini and from the sounds of things seems like I never will. Ha
