My girlfriend and I did our first five star raid today and we now have a Ho-Oh each :)

 

This game legitimately sucks sometimes. I hunted down so many Pokemon of all types, Mareep, Pineco, Houndour, Snubbull, Sunkern and Natu and got no shinies. Not even of the Pokemon I hate. Just a waste of my time.

 

I did get two shiny Snubbull and a Larvitar during the event, but I feel the same way right now. For how much I’ve been shiny hunting I was expecting at least 2 or 3 more. Been out like 3 hours each day looking, tapping every possible shiny.

Edit: just caught another shiny Larvitar, yet still zero Houndour, Natu, or Sunkern, which I’ve literally seen hundreds of. So weird. I already had like ten shiny Larvitar from community day.

 

Thought I had enough to evolve the evolved Pokémon task but nope

 

Regirock is now back in eggs, just FYI.

 

Unfortunately no shiny anything for me so far. I don't think it's a waste, I have fun playing the game. I do wish I had at least an ounce more luck like some of the people I play with locally. A guy we call Monk has every shiny possible except for I believe 1-2 not-that-important ones. Plays no more than I do, though I think he does travel and play elsewhere which lately I haven't had time to do.

 

I learned a long time ago that getting frustrated over not finding shinies is a losing battle.

 

Yeah, shinies are supposed to be extremely rare.

 

According to my app I only have 21 of the 92 available shinies. I'm okay with that. Shinies are probably what I am least bothered about as most of them don't look that good anyway.

 

It's not the fact that I don't get shinies. It's the whole random nature of the game that irks me. I can throw a ultra balls with a great curve and the Pokemon busts out on one move, but I throw a pokeball with no curve and clip the guy and catch him. Every 10km egg I hatch is a Trapinch and the friends I have that play once every few weeks catch shinies I've been hunting for months.

And I get it, it's just how the game operates, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

 

If i have eevee as my buddy and have already walked the 10k, if I switch him out do I have to walk another whole 10k to get espeon? If that makes sense

just beat a regirock raid but didn't catch him with 11 balls. Whomp.

 

I think you just need to put it back as buddy to evolve. You don't need to redo the 10k.

 

my friend said you need to evolve the eevee while it is your buddy after walking the 10k, bc switching it out loses the progress.

can anyone confirm the correct steps for this? ima be pissed if i do it wrong lol

also whats the cutoff for day/night in this game? to make sure you don't accidentally wait too long and get espeon when youre supposed to get umbreon and vice versa

 

If you walked 10k total AND got two candies as buddy, you can de-buddy anytime. I'd If want to evolve either of the two you have to re-buddy, but you don't need to walk more.

Day/night cutoff is when your app changes colors

 

I'd say it must go with the day and night time of the in-game map.

 

Stupid Pokemon like Shellder, Murkrow, or Roselia that you don't care about? Shiny on the second click (literally happened to me with all of them). Favorite Pokemon like Charmander and Houdour that you actively look for? No chance.

I've done fairly well for hardly ever playing (15 different base shinies) but it still irks me that I don't find them when I ACTUALLY look for them. haha.

 

also is rattata really the new global nest? i cant open my app without 7 of them popping up the last few days. why on earth would they do that?

 

I've played this game for a long time now and this is literally the first time I've heard about "global nests." What does this mean?!?! (I mean I think I have a pretty good idea as to what it means, but if you wouldn't mind elaborating or giving me a link I would greatly appreciate it).

 

i think it is a more recent thing, like for 1-2 weeks one pokemon will appear everywhere in very very high spawn rates, recently i can think of Paras, Trecko, & i think Machop being global nests, and now it appears to be Rattata. I cannot imagine why though.

 

Okay, I gotcha. Yeah, Rattata is hands down the worst pick for this. They are useless and they cost 25 candies to evolve so they aren't even as good as say Pidgey for people who like to mass evolve for XP. Anyways, thanks for the information and it's just another aspect of the game I need to pay attention to.

 

i got a shiny Snubbull and gave it to someone who wanted it much much more badly than i. i don’t mind not having found more, although i put the effort in big time and am legit surprised i didn’t find a shiny Sunkern or Natu in the 2-300 each that i caught. i had a blast hunting, was some beautiful weather.

if anything i’m bummed not a single Unown being reported in my community. i’m never going to travel out of state for this game so unless we get an NYC Safari Zone i’m never getting one of those lol

 

very excited to see the spawns the Japan event brings worldwide this weekend

 

I haven't seen a rattata in a while.
