With the battle in ten raids quest or whatever, do you have to win ten or just fight in ten?

just battle, winning is not a requirement.

I'd like to point out, once again, how much I hate not being able to buy evolution items with Stardust. This is my second week in a row getting an Upgrade. I can't even evolve my Porygon. They don't exist around here except from eggs.

I have seen two Porygons in the wild ever. One in the first month of the game coming out, and one on Saturday, within 50 ft of each other.

I wish remote trading was possible just for stuff like this. I have so many Porygons and Porygon2s that I trash most of them now.

I agree. It's so fucking annoying to hear it's so common somewhere else. It's poor game design that it NEVER shows up where I am. A lot of people just don't have the financial means to travel so only having local trading is stupid. I'm also not going to fly somewhere just to trade a Pokemon with someone.

I guess I understand why they don't do long distance trading, but at the same time it seems really silly because those hardcore fans are going to get those Pokemon either way and it's not like you can just create a new account and trade for all the best Pokemon from the start because you need a shit ton of Stardust for the good ones. It just seems not very well executed.

You can still trade when people come to you, but you may need to get more involved in some different communities to make it happen. I've already added tons of people that I know I will be near for trips in a few months, so that helps the cost a ton. Maybe at some point best friends will have a longer distance available.

Region specific pokemon piss me off.

I have never seen a Taurus or Kangaskhan, and I'm probably not going to see one until I go to the US next summer, but I have fucking Mr Mimes coming out of my ears and they are useless.

Every decision made (whether we like/agree with it or not) is made with only one thing in mind. It’s not how can we make the user experience better, it’s not how can we make the players happier, it’s “how can we profit off this decision”. I have to imagine the reason long-distance trading is not readily available yet (or will ever happen) is because they plan to release events (whether raids, or community days, etc.) that will feature this sought after region exclusive pokemon, and there will be an opportunity for them to cash in on raid passes and other in-game purchases. If they just let you trade legendaries for next to nothing, there would be no need to raid for them in the future, which lowers their ability to capitalize on it. The high star-dust requirement and IV rolling is a deterrent for sure.

It sucks yes, but I at least understand the apparent motives behind these decisions.

Yeah, but you get where I'm coming from, right? This isn't just about me specifically. I'm also thinking about my friends who live in the middle of nowhere Indiana and Arkansas and stuff that just don't really have super large communities anyway.

I hope the best friend thing does lead to long distance. That would be cool.

I hate Mr. Mime, but I still want him in my Pokedex. Regionals are dumb.

I'd like to see PvP battling where you can wager things like stardust or even other pokemon on the outcome of the battle

I think the friend thing is the best thing to happen to rural players in forever, actually. The fact that they can get items and eggs without tons of stops is incredible, and even opening up local trades gives a lot of hope to people who don't get out much. There are always online communities and posts from people planning various trips, so staying connected doesn't have to mean a huge local raid group.

I have zero interest in PVP. That competition side of things was always my least favorite part of any Pokemon game, and betting Pokemon is just, blah. That sounds awful to me. Hopefully if it ever comes it isn't necessary to use that feature.

Yeah, I get all that. It's still kind of bullshit. I've never once thought Niantic was doing any of this for the players. If you look at the game at the base level and strip off the Pokemon aspects, the game is actually pretty shallow and flawed. It's buggy as hell (at least for me) and the mechanics are laughable. But because it's Pokemon, we all want it. It says a lot that we're all willing to sacrifice quality for a beloved franchise.

Now, I'm not saying the game hasn't improved a lot since launch because it totally has, but most of those improvements, which can definitely be seen with trading, are just held off to the last possible second. Trading should have been within the first year, but they knew they could milk it and still get money by delaying it and adding little trivial things in between.

Tl;dr - Niantic has always been in it for the money, not for making a quality experience for the user. (and yeah, I know they're a business and their job is to make money)

That seems like such a strange priority if you don't have a local community. I can imagine some pretty huge tournaments happening which would be fun to watch at least.

I feel like fighting could be done much easier over long distances compared to trading. It's not like you're going to fight someone you can't possibly win against and you theoretically wouldn't be able to powerlevel or whatever.

I honestly have no idea how they'd do the battle system though.

Oh I'm sure if they ever add PvP it will be just like trading. It loses the "get out and play" aspect if they add very many remote play mechanics.

I remember playing Pokemon on Gameboy Color and being so excited to link up and battle people. Then I battled my brat of a cousin who would pick Gengar every time. Pretty sure all he would do is put you to sleep which required you to use a turn to wake your Pokemon up. It was incredibly frustrating. haha.

I think I may be stuffed this Sunday as I am working an event where I expect the mobile phone mast will collapse and kill my data. Going to try my best, of course. I will be next to a PokeStop and my GPS has a tendency to wander, so I might get lucky with the eggs, but I'm pretty sure this will be the first Community Day shiny I miss out on.
