That Pokevision thing seems interesting. I might have to use that. For the amount of travel I have to do to get to Pokestops/hotspots, I probably devote as much time as a person who is ten levels above me.

It shows no pokemon in my area, or in CT at all.

  10. I can't figure out gyms. I would like to drop a pokemon off but it only ever gives me the option to battle.

I tried Pokevision, it scanned my neighborhood, I saw a Tauros two blocks away, got dressed and ran out quite disheveled, and it was not there.

To drop off a Pokémon at a gym that is your color, you must battle it with 1 beast of your choice, gaining Team Gym Points for each opponent defeated. Once you beat the gym enough to bring it to the next level, there will be another option, this time on the bottom left of the gym screen, to add a Pokémon to the gym.

If the gym is not your team's color you must battle it with 6 beasts of your choice and defeat the entire lineup. Do this several times, lowering the team's Gym Points down to 0 and then you can add a Pokémon of your choice to the gym.

Another thing to keep in mind is that someone can take your hard-earned gym spot if they are walking by at the right time and see that there is another level or that the gym has been abandoned and when you try to add something it will error out. For this reason, I'd suggest that, on the last battle that will ultimately add another level or erase the enemy team from the gym, you use a Pokémon other than that which you wish to put on the gym. If you defeat it then try to heal up that Pokémon and put him on the gym someone else will likely have stolen your gym spot out from under your nose.

You guys, my eggs have been terrible. One just hatched a Venonat (they're everywhere around here), and the other day I got a Horsea and a Poliwag.

Magnemite is Steel/Electric. The only type not represented in Gen 1 is Dark.

I figure if the only damn things around me are gonna be rattatas and pidgeys, I'll just evolve the shit out of them.

Anyone have an idea of how the ap chooses which pokemon to display as your default team when the option to battle is selected? I can't figure it out.

Also, we should coin a term for people who steal gyms in the way you mention in your last paragraph. Something like "Thief" is on the right track, but too simple.

It goes by CP. Lowest to highest. If you flick over it will show the other Pokémon. As far as when you're walking around and see the avatar on top of the tower, it shows the one with the highest CP.

This is not always the case.

It's always my highest CP six, minus any doubles (I have two Flareons and two Vaporeons and it always choses one of each, then #7 and #8 of my top 8 strongest).

Also, I tried to evolve using Sparky and Rainer today, with no others named that, and neither worked.

This is not always the case with me. When up against a gym held by my team, it just randomly chose one and avoided at least 5 other higher CP pokemon.

When up against a gym held by an opposing team, it seems to randomly sort mostly high CP Pokémon, but I always have to re-arrange and trade others out for higher CP options. This is without doubles coming into the mix as I don't have any.
