That's the thing though. Having high level CP Pokemon and holding gyms will help you fill out the pokedex. Assuming you don't spend real money on the game of course. More gyms means more coins mean more incubators means more Pokemon!

 

i still try to grab a gym every morning and at least get 10 coins but its pretty rough now that school has started and all the college kids are back in town.

 

Most I ever nabbed at once was 40 coins, but I usually just settle for 10 a day.

 

Got 60 once I think. Now I've got a Snorlax that's been posted in a gym for like a week so I just collect my 10 a day and call it.

 

10K was a Scyther. Had never seen one before so I can't complain. Was hoping for a Snorlax though.

 

Yeah I have a low Charmander that's been in a gym since Saturday. I have hardly had time to play this week so nabbing ten coins everyday for no work is pretty cool.

 

I must need to find some more remote/obscure gyms. I don't think I've ever held a gym for the 21 hours

 

Only ever had 10 coins at once, but I only get coins by walk-bys anyway hah

 

This is the first time my guys have made it more than an hour haha. And he's made it nearly a week. Thinking next time I get a chance I'll just sit and put as many as I can in. Racking up 40 coins a day would be nice.

 

Just had a realization that because I live on the outskirts of Princeton Campus, that once students come back next week every single gym will be impossible to hold.

 

Oh wait, shit, you get 10 coins at first just for taking it??? I thought you had to hold it for 21 hours then you get 10. So many coins wasted........ive had to had at least like 30 gyms, but never for more than 3 or 4 hours.

 

Yeah! When you take over the gym (or add someone) go straight into the Shop. In the upper right corner there's a little icon and you can get coins right away. I've managed to rack up 40 coins and I haven't been in a gym for more than about an hour or so haha

 

Im level 21 and never knew this jesus. I guess gyms are only kinda pointless and not totally pointless.

 

Honestly that's the only reason I take over gyms so I can hurriedly swipe over and get my coins

 

The only downside of unexpectedly holding a gym for over a week is you don't get to use that Pokemon anymore. I took down this gym and it has since become a level 10. Been holding it for a super long time. The first three or four Pokemon are all under 300 cp though haha.

 

Haha. They are pretty much there to get you more incubators, honestly.

The risk of redeeming your coins the second you get your guy in a gym is that you may come across another gym that you can get in right after. The gamble is that you want to get as many gyms as possible before you redeem your coins (you'll be locked out for 21 hours after you collect), but your Pokemon may be kicked out of the gym before you can go take another one. If you live in an area that is really difficult to maintain a gym, then it might be smart to just cash out as soon as possible.

The reason I'm set for the time being is that my Charmander has been sitting in a gym that apparently isn't getting touched because it's way out in the middle of a bike trail. So I can go take other gyms without worrying that he's going to be kicked out. And at the very least, I'll collect those 10 coins every day.

 

I didn't know the pokedex tells you how many of each individual pokemon you've caught. I've caught 223 drowzee of the 238 I've seen, that's the most of any pokemon for me. Also 26 Hypno. I wonder how many have popped up that I've just ignored...

 

That's crazy, I've never seen a Drowzee irl (only the silhouette literally once)

 

That is insane. My Drowzee is 1/1.

My most is Pidgey with 229/279. I can't believe 50 of them have ran away from me. haha.

 

Come to Chicago guys, more drowzee than pidgey.

My little vacation has been fun. Caught some slowpoke, a tangela, a scyther, and hatched a shellder. Had never seen these before. The hotel I'm staying at is a Weedle nest, I've never seen a nest before. Also got some magikarp, psyduck, bulbasaur, and bellsprout which are uncommon for me.

 

On the topic of Lickitung, I never saw one (or a silhouette) until 2 AM this past Saturday morning and I just caught my second one tonight, plus saw another silhouette. Update must've worked.

 

Had a pretty good hunt tonight. Caught a few charmander, Rhyhorn, Vulpix, and Jigglypuff. Also got a Kingler, Bulbasaur (first time), and a grimer. And of course lots of other things. But it wasn't just good things tonight. I finally hatched my 10km egg, and it was a 338cp Chansey. Ridiculous if you ask me. That thing is useless, honestly don't have a point in even keeping it. I also finally got enoug candies to evolve my 390 shellder (which would be over 1000cp cloyster). But I spam clicked and accidentally evolved a really weak one...
