Are they all going to be the same pikachu? Super dorky but I still have the whole first set, you can get it anywhere super cheap still.

I can't get over how genuinely great this looks visually. Most movies based on video games end up looking so cheap.

I wonder how close this will be to the game. It’s an amazing game but it’s hard to see how they could translate that into the film.

and it has kind of a bummer ending haha

Honestly... I kinda hope that's not completely true?

I know I said this at least once already in this thread, but I just don't think an adaptation of that story would be all that interesting in rehashed Hollywood form. And, there's the whole factor of it being a Japan-set story, which I don't trust Hollywood with.

Just pick a real life region that the games haven't visited yet, create a brand new set of gyms in that classic formula, & make a trilogy following a new protagonist on their journey through this region that'd be both new & familiar to longtime fans. And, include an adult Ash/Red in a recurring supporting role so that nostalgia itch can be scratched while still maintaining creativity.

I like the Mewtwo spin off but I agree with the Red/Blue concerns. Movies featuring the the regions and cities from Red/Blue would just be nostalgic pandering and I think it would backpedal the world that Legendary is creating. We can all unfortunately expect that the towns and characters from the games probably won’t be truly represented minus 2 or 3 token Japanese characters.

I agree that the best route is to just continue creating new cities for the movie world while showing some fan-favorite characters along the way. I wouldn’t even be against a minor town or two representing some of the Japan-based regions from the games as long as they get the culture and characters right but a series of films focused only on a set of towns that have been explored in games for over 20 years isn’t fresh or exciting at this point.

Hopefully with the success of Detective Pikachu and a sequel already in development, Legendary will see the worth in focusing on creating new parts of the Pokémon world to explore.
