Pokémon (2018) Movie

Legendary Pictures just did what every studio in the past 20 years wished they could do. They won the rights to a live-action Pokémon movie.

The story is going to be about Detective Pikachu.
Production starts in 2017.

Max Landis has been teasing that he's involved in this for a few months now.

 

He wrote a lot of tweets about this in the last few hours but his pitch was denied in favor of this Detective Pikachu one.

 

This gives me hope for more stories to come. I would have loved if they made a mob movie about Rocket (sort of like The Dark Knight but with Giovanni replacing the Joker). But I understand this needs to be targeted to kids as well. At least we won't get a live-action Ash. That would be horrible.

 

I hate Max Landis so much.

I have a feeling that Nintendo and the Pokémon Co. had more to do with it than Legendary. "Detective Pikachu movie or no Pokémon movie" is probably the offer they won.

When I was a kid I dreamed of a live-action Ash/Misty/Brock movie.

Had never heard of the Great Detective Pikachu story, but it's interesting.
