Yes exactly. “Guide”. I agree completely. The problem is most of the posters in this thread are past that point. I’ve said it before, I know a lot of people who loved this band and had no idea about the abuse issues. We forget that the average music fan doesn’t post in and read internet threads on a regular basis. I post in other threads on a daily basis without “catching up”. I’ve never had issues before. It only seems to happen here. Thread title misleading.
The assumption that people should have read the last X pages is kinda lame, in my opinion. I don't have time to read up on every thread I want to post in. I have a fair amount of posts where I say something like "I'm really digging song X." I think this thread should be closed or renamed to abuse thread, and if people want to talk about the album just create a new album thread.
Yes but we aren't talking about the average listener here. We are talking about people who signed up for chorus.fm.
That might happen sometimes, sure. With more casual users. But I think the people who get harped on are regular users who should know better but apparently don't care. Like anyone who liked that Brand New video
Most people in here bumping the thread with positive updates about the band were actively engaged in the initial discussions
I think what we have now is fine. I’d absolutely be annoyed if a new album thread were created. I’d just continue to disrupt conversation in there
an ‘Allegations’ tag or something along those lines on certain threads would be super helpful. I don’t think we need an album discussion thread and an allegations thread for shitty bands in this scene. That’s a lot of clutter
There isn’t anything lame with expecting people to spend a couple minutes reading posts before they chime in with their thoughts. It’s a forum meant for discussion. If you don’t have time to catch up, don’t post until you can imo. This applies to more than just this thread, but I think it’s especially relevant to this thread. Edit: I’m on board with renaming the thread for what it’s worth
There shouldn't be two threads, but there also shouldn't be a thread that can serve as a dark corner of the site for people who want to publicly support abusive artists. I think renaming this thread or putting an "Allegations" tag on it like @slowheart and others have suggested in the past is the best answer, personally.
Ummmmm, for the most part there was a discussion going on about Skylight and Skylight II that was pretty much left alone and then it died. No one was "chased after" for talking about their music. They were when they started defending an abuser
I still don’t feel the backlash is that massive. There’s a lot of artist that clearly support them still, including phoebe Bridgers and Kevin Devine, and rat boys who like their Instagram posts often. I think that there are valid reasons to support/withdraw from both sides, feel feee to do what you want. You really think this is worthy of attacking someone?
Yes, because for everything we know about Evan and this whole situation, there is literally 0 reasons to support him/the band
God forbid I still have a very, very bad taste in my mouth about the way this entire thing was handled/things returning to business as usual.
It’s also a little crazy to know what we’ve seen about this situation and still feel comfortable publicly supporting them as if nothing happened
See, it's comments like this ^^^ that prove why we need to rename the thread or put an "Abuse Allegations" tag on it. This website is not a safe space to stan abusers and people should know that.
seeing as how the person that created this thread is no longer on the site, can one of the moderators revise the thread title? @Henry ?
If wanting to discuss Pinegrove matters in a topic labeled "Pinegrove - Skylight" without being attacked is "stanning abusers", then I agree. Rename the thread and ban all album/tour discussion or don't and just let people discuss the album/tour without vilifying them for it. I think as it stands, the state of this topic amounts to conflict that nobody feels good about.
