Songs on the recording list that didn't make it on the record: Offer I Will No Drugs I'm Not Ready Hand 2 Hand
Josh Coll is on Twitter telling people he knows something they don’t know, still, as though everyone who likes pinegrove is a piece of shit for not being privy to the information he has. If these scene insiders have something to say they should say it or they should respect the victim and shut up, this tip toeing around what *really* happened but not telling anyone what really happened but still getting mad at people who want to listen is frankly childish bullshit
If there's more to the story, I want to be sensitive to the survivor with that in mind. I don't want this to come across as a defense of Evan if there's something signifiant that we're unaware of. That being said, fuck this "I'm privy to the details and you're not" bullshit. That kind of discourse helps no one, sheds no light on the topic, and serves only to condescend the fans of the band who actually trying to sort out how to navigate this situation with sensitivity toward those harmed. Fuck, man. This shit is so exhausting. You're either helping or you're hurting.
Yeah, this is pretty much exactly what I expected to happen. People "in the know" will continue to shame people listening to the band even after everything made public sides with Evan/the band going along with the survivor's wishes. And they might be right, idk. I'd tend to listen to people connected to the actual survivor moreso than people who aren't connected at all and just read the article, as shitty and condescending as those people in the scene sound. I just hate that there's this "i know something you don't know and you're a piece of shit for not knowing and attempting to grapple with the information that is public" mentality.
this isn’t the first time in the last couple days he’s done this either. and comparing pinegrove fans to Kavanaugh supporters is fucking ridiculous. I’m supposed to just blindly trust what this guys saying and drop pinegrove?
Being right is absolutely no excuse to shame people who don’t have the same information they do. None. That shit is harmful and counter active to real change.
This is tough. "Why would these people be lying?" is the question i keep coming back to. We can be frustrated with their tone and the shit that they say (comparing BK supporters to people listening to Pinegrove is fucked, regardless of the situation), but at the end of the day why would they lie about the victim still being uncomfortable with the band still releasing music?
Sure, I don't agree with how he's going about it. But we've seen (and absolutely taken part in) people being very angry and frustrated over a situation and lashing out like that as opposed to attempting a more peaceful discussion. At the end of the day, if the victim is not at peace and maybe just doesn't feel comfortable with saying anything else, idk what to make of the situation.
He didn’t even say that’s what the victim is uncomfortable with. He won’t say anything other than he knows something. What the fuck are we supposed to do? And no I’m not gonna trust someone going about it the way he is just because he’s in the scene. If someone else close to the victim has something to say without shaming everyone who isn’t “in the know” I’m all ears
My problem is that they, or at least Josh in this specific situation, aren’t saying anything. All he is saying is that he knows something we don’t. I don’t know what that something is, and while I don’t expect someone to actively betray the victims wishes, do we know if he knows the victim? How does he know what he knows? How credible is he? Idk, I get what you’re saying, but it’s complicated on both ends.
Again, I don't agree with what he's saying but I think we're bordering on tone policing here. He shouldn't have made the BK comparison and is absolutely being a dick, but I'm taking his ultimate sentiments seriously: According to him, there are more "details" that we don't know and the public doesn't know that leads many people to the conclusion that Pinegrove coming back is a very, very bad thing. He implies he knows the victim's wishes and is still angry, that's enough for me to take a step back and reflect
They don't have to be lying, they just might not have the most accurate info. Rumors and things can pop up in any scene and group of people especially when they have some initial instances to go off of. But if we knew what everyone else knows then we could essentially check the details.
It's wild to watch the live tracker of whats selling on Bandcamp. On a day when a lot of stuff is selling, every other one is this.
