Why the fixation with statements? Is that something that would benefit any of the people he's hurt, or is that just to absolve fans of any guilt they have for listening to this
I definitely want to hear it, just not sure if it’s gonna happen. If it’s a more important process for his rehabilitation to scrap it, so be it
I can't imagine they'd backpedal less than two days after it was announced, being that they're self-releasing it it'll be them doing the upload themselves so it'll probably pop up sometime today whenever they get around to it
Yeah, I doubt they would change their mind based on any random opinions online. It's probably just them being informal with it.
It’s very possible that they decided it wasn’t a good idea after seeing concerns and comments from other people in that scene.
Idk what to tell you, you’re making a lot assumptions. I would just prefer to hear it from evan, after his initial statement started all this, rather than a pitchfork article.
in uproxx’s new release post they mentioned that the band made note last night that they were holding off on releasing it until noon EST. I can’t find anything where they said that anywhere though so idk.
What else do people want honestly? This is the most thorough correction of anything I've seen. And it wasn't even a black and white situation. Went on hiatus for a year. Cancelled tour. Delayed album release. Worked with mediator. Met all of other parties' requests. Sought therapy and worked through issues. Come out with a full piece, detailing the events and admitting faults and even championing fans who care about the issues and talking about dismantling patriarchal, etc. Etc. Filling in the fact that they're getting the album out hidden in the middle of the giant piece and never advertised anywhere, donate all proceeds to various charities. If this isn't good enough, I don't think anything would ever be when it comes to restorative justice
okay but the whole reason the album wasn’t coming out was out of respect for the victim right? so when the victim says, this is resolved you can release the album, you expect them to trash it? when even the victim is okay with the album drop?
the closer we get to marching BK into a lifetime appointment after the absolute shitshow yesterday, the more I think them releasing this today is in poor taste
They totally have the right to release it. I think that's fine. I just get a weird feeling about it being written and recorded in a similar time space as everything going on, personally. I see the point about albums having material written from different time periods though.
I kinda get it. The album was relatively done at the time the allegations happened, right? At the very least songs off of it were written and recorded. One could make the jump that the songs were written/recorded around the time of the interaction between Evan and the survivor, which makes people uncomfortable. I mean no one knows what/who the songs are about, so it's ultimately moot. I just understand why some people have qualms with it.
Okay but I'm curious and will still listen to it??? I don't understand what you're getting at. I was simply responding to somebody's question as how we'd feel if the album was scrapped.
Those aren't assumptions, I'm really just wondering where the line is here wrt being accountable towards the people you hurt vs making these public statements for the benenfit of your (largely) uninvolved fans. He made an initial statement, he was quoted in the P4k piece, it's not like any new or useful info is gonna come out. And that's assuming that he/their team don't have lawyers sift through their statement which very likely every single one of these guys has.
